Just read this this morning in the Metro - so it MUST be true! Seems that there is a petrol fuel leak risk on some of the cars with this engine. Anyone had problems or have any clues as to exactly which range of engine/car Serial Number/VIN are included in this recall, only 94,000 cars involved - or what the exact issue is?

I read it includes 2011-2012 S4 S5 and Q7, and the 2012 A6.

Surprised it doesn't cover all of the pre facelift S4's and I read that the cause is a small valve between injector and the fuel rail causing the issue. Whole new fuel rail and retaining bracket is the fix.

There is information on this American site. They always seem to have more recalls and issues than anybody else.

Seems to affect all models using the 3L TFSI engine around 2011-2012

Description of Defect :
Description of the Defect : Due to a combination of production tolerance issues and vehicle vibration during
dynamic driving, it is possible that, in rare cases, a fuel leak may occur in the
vehicle's fuel injection system. Leaking fuel, in the presence of an ignition source,
may result in a fire. There have been no reports of accidents or injuries as a result of
this concern in the United States
Description of the Safety Risk : Leaking fuel, in the presence of an ignition source, may result in a fire.
Description of the Cause : In rare cases, unfavorable tolerance conditions can lead to a minor leak at the fuel
rail / injector connection.

Chronology :
• March 2013 - August 2013: The first customer complaints regarding fuel odor coming from the engine
compartment were received. Field investigations were conducted, including analysis of engine/parts
tolerances. No abnormalities were noted.
• September 2013 - January 2014: Conducted test bench analysis, with no abnormalities noted.
• February 2014 - December 2014: Further analysis conducted, including simulations of different parts fitting situations performed on defective parts/vehicles. Analyses concluded that, if the valve is positioned unfavourably in the range of tolerance during dynamic driving, a small leak may form at the connection between the fuel rail and the injector, which then causes fuel odor.
• January 12, 2015: Recall decision made.

Description of Remedy :
Description of Remedy Program : Replacement of fuel rails and the corresponding seals.
How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : Optimized geometry/tolerances of fuel rail and improved sealing.
Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : Implementation of reinforced fuel rail
retaining bracket in calendar week 3-2012

So is this only effecting pre-facelift? Facelift was from early March 2012 and the latest production date for the effected cars is 3rd March 2012. Mine is face life with a registered date of mid march, hopefully this means I won't be impacted.......

Slightly curious as to which UK reg'd cars Audi will recall as, according to a parts listing, all 3.0L TFSI engines from 2009 until at least 2013, used the same fuel rails! No POE listed for a part number change, something VAG always do is to change the p/n slightly whenever there is a design change and the described remedy is to fit reinforced fuel rails.

2nd recall (airbag control software in Jan) in 2 months. Not what I expect on a £50k car.

Wonder if ill be able to get some free stuff out of them :-D

You would expect them to recall all years if they are using the exact same part number. I may complain of a fuel smell just incase, and see if they will do the recall on my car too.

When will Audi be in touch? My 2011 S4 is in the hot spot!

Lifting the details from the http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchDetails acticle, Audi is getting in touch round about March onwards, also, what was the build month for your car, it seems that the recall is going by car build dates of April11> and not by engine serial numbers. My car is a January factory output one so probably will miss this recall.

Just checked and the date of manufacture on mine is 07/10, so earlier than I first thought.

Shame they didn't recall all of the TFSI 211 engines.

Has anybody had the recall on here (UK) ?

Nope. Mine is a March 2012 facelift and was in for its oil change service last month. I asked the head of servicing about the recall and she confirmed that she had not heard of it and there were no recalls listed against my car.

You may be callign this a "recall" but it may be one you guys have t ocontact Audi and question them directly.

The US has more recalls as they are stricter with their legislations.

Have a look on the SRS forum ( www.audisrs.com )as there are two members that have been contacted, I think that the thread was titled "Safety Recall" - both of these cars had a build date of June/July 2011 I seem to recall. Audi are still using the same vehicle recall number as the North American one,if that helps.
