Hi all been searching the form and still not sure what to go for and where best place to find.My S4 needs new discs and pads for the front any suggestions?help really appreciated

Get pagid discs and some Ferrodo premier pads.

Best bet is to probably try eBay !

What year S4 ??

I'd take the opportunity to swap out the ****** S4 calipers, at the very least for the B7/Allroad 320mm setup.

When you say do the calipers what is the difference and do they fit strait on or is there modifications

the S4 calipers are horrible things, pad choice is limited, they're bulky/heavy and have two pistons and a nasty slider arrangement that wears out.

The Allroad/B7 calipers can usually be bought for 40-50quid each on ebay, bolt straight on in place of the S4 ones using the original S4 disk, you just need Allroad/B7 fitment pads.

I do second Aragorn's opinion, the later HP2 caliper is a huge improvement over the HP1 caliper and the pad choice is quite large + discs/calipers are very cheap to source. Abut 250 quid will get you a used pair with decent pads and new discs...

Yep. I would use new disks and pads though, dont get why folk would reuse them, they're really not that expensive.

Scott on here had a set of the calipers off his A8, which AFAIK should be the same as the Allroad/B7 ones. Maybe message him and see if hes still got them?

Ok prob the dumbest question ever sorry but been looking for a Allroad B7 on ebay but as im not sure what year they are im a bit lost as not sure what am looking for A4/A6

So if i buy the caliper do i buy discs for that or the once i have on my car now

The 2.0TFSI DTM got the 320mm ATE calipers aswell might be worth checking the B7 section for some to see if anyone is upgrading theres !!

The newer type of caliper takes two pads, which is what you want.

Your S4 calipers (and the older Allroad ones <2002) take 4 pads.

ok so that car on ebay is the correct year and modle

The calipers use exactly the same disk as your car uses currently, so you simply buy the normal B5 S4 front disks.
Hi there- just spotted this thread about improving S4 brakes, and as an S4 FL owner, would be interested in improving things...
Are you saying just changing front callipers and using existing discs will give a noticeable improvement over the standard setup?

many thanks in advance.

if your S4 calipers are in perfect nick, its unlikely to make a huge difference.

Most S4 calipers are, at this stage, a bit knackered however. The S4 caliper is also huge, limiting your wheel choices, and has extremely limited pad availability, with many manufacturers not producing pads for them.

The ATE calipers i mention above solve all of these issues. they're newer, more slimline, less complicated, and have significantly better pad availability.

They're a minor upgrade or improvement to the standard braking system, rather than a huge difference you might get fitting some 365mm 8 pot brembos from an RS4.

No carrier spacing is too short plus i wouldnt be fitting them to an S4 there only just about useful on 1.8T's

well thinking of sticking with the original once

There are two variations of the stock calipers, you need to find out which you have as they take different pads.

One type has the pads bolted in, the other has a spring retaining clip.

Ok what is he measuring thanks and what model is for my car

the models with the 320mm disks are some of the 2.0 TFSI's and the V6 models.

He just need sto measure the diameter of the brake disk.
