Wondering if you could help me out,
I have a strange noise coming from my engine, have searched low and hign but most threads seem to bea bout turbo-powered cars.
I have a A3 1.6 1999
The noise happens when I am driving at 3,000 rpm in 5th gear and only between 60-65 mph once i go above that the noise stops.
It has also started to occur now at lower revs in lower gears between 2,000 rpm, its a whirring/swirling type of sound, similar to when wind passes through a metal hollow object.
Yesterday I 'accidental' left my foot on the clutch whilst changing gear from 2nd to 3rd an applied the accelerator and the noise was there again but it sounded even more like a vibrating sound which is making me think its Clutch or Gearbox or the exhaust system.
The car pulls fine and there is no loss of power, no smoke, I had the water pump and cam belt changed a few years ago, its done 120k miles.
Any help appreciated , or any how to guides to resolve the issue, please let me know
