Just so I'm not making a mistake thought id ask to double check. Misfire on cylinder two. Flashing ecu light. Car is rough as hell. Pulled the maf sensor made no difference.

So it's Coilpacks? Will call Audi tomorrow and see if the recall was done. Am I still entitled to it? The last posts I can see on here about the recall are from 2011.

Anything else or is it cut and dry coilpacks? Will pull spark plugs before just to check the electrode on cylinder 2 hasn't fell off.

Of course it will be minus numbers temperature tomorrow as usual when something needs doing to the car and I need it to go places....

Possible to swap the coil packs around to see if the misfire moves to a different cylinder to confirm a faulty pack?

Just be careful, sometimes removing them can make the problem worse, you may end up chasing your tail.
Alex @ AKS tuning can supply the red R8 coil packs for a good price.

Thanks Craig, I need to call Audi in the morning as they weren't open today. Will leave them alone and just see if I can get them replaced foc. Fingers crossed as I didn't want to spend any more money on it after the new engine....

do you think the problem is a result of your recent tuning mate, maybe an exsisiting fault that has now been forced to a head by the increased output, just a thought and hope you get it sorted.

My avant had a misfire couple of years ago thought it was the coil pack turned out to be the diverter valve.

Cheers guys, had a new dv valve 2 months ago. New engine. Decat and intake pipe so not sure that would cause a misfire. Anyhoo it's booked in at audi for free coilpacks so I assume they are the originals which have lasted 126k.

Were the coilpacks subject to 'recall' across all 2.0 tfsi's or just specific engine codes?
................ and I'll use the term 'recall' loosely, I'll bet it was one of those where the customer had to complain first to get them actioned ?!

Yeah it was definitely a recall on all 2.0 TFSIs, not sure about other engines, Audi just asked for my reg and confirmed. From my looking the other night it seemed to be around 2011. The girl at the service dept at Audi was shocked that my car hadn't been in for it already. But, yeah...complain first then book it in type of recall by the sounds of it. Once it was found on ASN and other forums in 2011 seems everyone jumped on it.

Sorry didn't answer this before; it's a good shout but I wouldn't necessarily think it would be down to the decat/intake pipe (10-20hp max?) as I'd hazard a guess that those would only cause the MAF to eat itself rather than the coilpacks. With 126k on the clock, freezing temperatures (-7 today, well, wind chill takes it to that), shorter journeys (got a baby so not much walking getting done in this weather) and lots of ****** traffic due to Xmas shoppers, it's probably just taken its toll on the packs, and the recall being 3 years ago I reckon they were on their way out anyway.

Although, we'll see if Audi pick up on anything else one Wednesday when it's booked in. Never been in Audi before....kinda looking forward to it....probably end up seeing if I can wrangle a test drive in an RS4....most likely not, but I'll take my driving license just in case ;)

I had the same. Fault code was misfire on cylinder 1, turned out to be an injector.

Just something I would like to add to this. All TFSI 2.0 B7 were under the recall scheme some were done under warranty and some were done out of warranty..

But I will warn you all before hand if any of you are going to try or go to the extent of getting there coils packs replaced under the recall scheme make absolute sure you have 100% Audi coil packs currently on your vehicle even if you must beg borrow or steal someone that has old coils, the hard thing is you can only see if they are real or not by removing them most of the time as the numbers and information is under the head of the coil. Audi get very snooty about changing coils that are not OEM plugs.

And ive had this experience with 3 vehicles 2 being DTM's that had a recall. On the one I had 3 Audi OE coils and one was a Bura and they refused to replace it as it was a none OE part. Which for one they don't tell you until they give the vehicle back to you and number 2 which hacked me off is they didn't even suggest and say look you have one that is not an Audi part but we can sell you the Audi part for full price or even if they gave me a discount. Which they were £30 at the time. I would have said sure while you there fit it as well.

But nope give me the car back tell me after so don't say I didn't warn any of you :)

If coils don't solve it, I would say injector, but with the EML flashing that usually indicates a coil pack.
Plus an injector is usually under load and the EML will stay on.
Did your mechanic change the injector seals with your engine rebuild?

No mate he didn't it's the one thing I forgot to tell him to change.

Thanks for the info about coils etc.

No problem mate. If the problem persists after a coil change, I would consider the seals

All four coil part numbers in range for recall, cleaned inside and out, no other worries. Everyone happy....apart from Audi as I told them not to do a health check (which they did anyway) and not to vacuum inside because my daughters stuff is everywhere but they did it anyway. Got a free tin of sweets :)

The dreaded health check. I always tell them I dont want that because they have a habit of plugging in there diagnostic equipment and telling me they updated my software to a later revision... Which I dont want updated because I have a map on my vehicle :(

Hmm so what's the deal with that will you get your map back? Does the tuner allow for this or do you complain to audi and get it restored? Just for future reference.

Got a eml today saying it was running lean.

Had the wife and baby on the car so just pootling, not sure what to make of it. Getting low 30mpg on the DIS which is far less than normal as I usually manage to get 38-40mpg with the in the car, maybe it's just winter and having heating on warm and lights on? But why would it run lean? Gonna get it mapped soon so maybe the decat is messing up fuelling at part throttle?

Well in my case I only reliased after i drove the car home that the map was off. I didnt really bother going back to Audi as they seemed like because they just did me a favour they wont do me a favour sorta thing.

But in other cases they done it and refused to do anything about it as they just going according to the workshop agreement and that I should have warned them. But to answer your question depending on who your tuner is some companies will charge a small fee like Revo for example ask you just to have proof of payment and they charge a £50 fee to reapply the map. That is why I always recommend people who do have choose Revo as a tuner to get a SPS as you can swop your map on the fly at no cost.

Or just avoid the dealers at all costs. Saves a fortune in the long run, and if you go to the right place, you get the same job if not better.

Technicians theses days are screwed if VCDS doesn't tell them what to do.

Yup as mentioned at the start it's the first time I've been to audi or any dealer for that matter, purely wanted the free recall :) this 05 car is the youngest car I've owned, always had Mk2 escorts or CRXs before the pull of a swanky Audi came along. Always do my own work or have a trusted mechanic if it's beyond me.

Tbh the Audi tech had less knowledge than me, which is frightening. Not to mention he called the coilpacks glow plugs....which quickly made me look at the paperwork and they had my car down as a tdi....told him it was a tfsi, he said oh the 1.8 then...nope...5 speed...nope...facepalm...

The ****** thing said it was running lean again yesterday. Normal driving, did about 50 miles of varied driving (no stop start) and then after about 45 miles popped up the eml.

Says cylinder 1 running lean. Spark plug gone bad?

Btw I removed the decat two weeks ago.
