My Dads car went in for an oil change service today, and on the way there the engine light came on. Apparantly it needs coils 2-4-6 replacing. Obviously its an easy job to do myself, but which coils are people using to replace them? Audi/Eurocarparts etc etc?

Best to use oem coil packs have you a TPS nearby ? If so they are around £32 + vat each
You can get them from eurocarparts for about £22 each but they could be any make.

And always best to do all Six as the others won't be far behind......

According to Audi, the coil pack recall was done in 2011. They should of lasted longer than that?

They are well known for failing, condensation forms on the inside of the aluminium bonnet then drips down into where the coils are located, the moisture can run into the plug holes as there is no rubber seal at the top of these coil packs, this can cause them to start shorting to earth, when I refitted mine I sprayed all of them with Würth electrical contact spray.

My local ECP has BERU coils in stock which i've never had a problem with on anything else, makes it easier to justify buying 6 instead of just the 3 failing :)

Is it not possible to insulate the outside to prevent it happening again, or some sort of cover over the coils?
