Recently had to sell my family car, (Range Rover Vogue), as changed jobs and needed a car for myself, and a car for the missus. Went and bought her a nice little Alfa, then the next day I went and traded the RR for an RS5 for me. The RR had my wifes private plate on it so when I traded the RR I asked the dealer to put it on retention for me so I could then put it on her new car.
Anyway, the dealer made a cherished transfer instead of putting it on retention and put it on my Audi. Now he's refusing to pay for his mistake, I made it clear exactly what I wanted.. I have to admit when I checked the paperwork over I did miss the fact that he had charged for a 'cherished transfer' as opposed to placing the reg on a 'retention cert.'... but you all know how many bits of paperwork you check while trading cars, the main thing your looking for is that all the numbers are correct.
I've contacted the DVLA - Nothing they can do, speak to the dealer...
And as I say dealer is refusing... so it looks like I will have to pay another £110, (on top of the £110 I've already paid!) to take the reg off my Audi, onto retention, and then pay to put it onto her Alfa, (which I would have had to pay anyway), at the same time as hoping my 60 plate which was on the Audi when I bought it hasnt been sold by the DVLA and hoping they will give me it back without cost?).
Anyone got any advice or insight into my situation, any help would be appreciated?
Cheers :)

you wont have to pay to put it on the alfa.

you only pay to transfer car to car or put on retention

and you will 99% get the 60 plate reg back with no charge.

Dealers or car salesmen usually deal with reg transfers only. Retaining a reg plate should be done by the owner prior to selling the car.
