Afternoon all,

First post from me on here...sadly wish it was a more positive one! I'm not overly familiar with Audi's so apologies if my info below may raise questions I'm unable to answer.

I have an 8P engine, box, ECU etc fitted in a non-Audi car. The engine has just under 8k on it from new. At 2k (all before my ownership btw), the engine let go due to a poor remap which destroyed one of the pistons (stock internals but running around 320hp). The engine was then rebuilt with Loba parts to WTCC spec with forgen pistons etc (I have the bill for this at over 6000GBP), a hybrid K04 turbo was fitted and the car mapped with supporting mods to 420hp/450lb/ft at 1.7bar.

All well and good in the time I've owned the car but after a period of non use with the crap weather (around 2 months), I took the car out and noticed that under full/high boost the car produces a fair amount of greyish smoke. I've driven the car yesterday and on startup from cold, it was smoking a fair bit until the engine got up to temp, I gave it a good run but still the same situation. If I put the car in 5th and floor it with lower revs, no smoke...it only seems to be high revs/boost. The car as you'd imagine goes like **** off a shovel and certainly drives/pulls with no issues at all.

I'm wondering what the problem could be, any advise? Also does anyone know of a top Audi engine tuner in the Leatherhead/Surrey area? Could it be PCV or is it likely to be more concerning such as rings/turbo oil seals. I ran the engine cold with the oil filler cap off and it idles ok and you can feel the pressure/air from the engine coming through the filler neck (only slight which I expect is fine).

Thanks guys for any help you can give. I've got it booked in with a garage next Friday (Back on Track Guildford) but wanted to arm myself with any info I could.

i think that grey smoke is ok ! Blue is a concern as it points to oil !

Does it loose any coolant ? and i take it has no catalyst...

Just remember that a 2.0l engine putting out over 400bhp is burning alot of fuel ! and therefore will produce smoke. This will especially be the case if running with out a catalyst.

Where is the car stored ? if its out side you could have some water in the exhaust that will obviously start to evaporate when it gets hot, also you will get alot of condensation with the weather being so cold at startup and until the engine and exhaust system get hot.

What car are you running it in ?

Thanks for the reply S3Dust, the smoke definitely looks grey but there seems to be a lot of it (not constant plumes but enough to concern me). I haven't noticed it before the first drive on the 6th of Jan.

Car doesn't seem to loose coolant or oil (dipstick is hard to read though!) and yes no cat just downpipe and short exhaust.

The car is stored in a dry garage. One thing I forgot to mention was that not long after I bought the car, it developed an oil leak that was traced to the crank seal (replaced), following the leak and a track day, it developed another leak from the Mocal oil cooler (replaced with a 19row 235mm item) and now the smoke...which may ofcourse be unrelated. I suppose my worry is if the car is struggling to hold the oil pressure it's just finding the next weakest link each time? (oil pressure is 4.5bar cold, dropping to around 1bar on idle and rising to 4bar under load..oil temp rarely sees over 80 deg on the road and 100 on track).

I'll get a video up in the coming week showing the symptoms. Car is a series 2 Lotus Exige and is a complete animal, I love it!

Yes post some videos there are a few people on here running that sort of power that will be able to offer an opinion.

As for tuners I have heard very good things about AMD Essex and they seem to be experts with this engine. I know S3Alex will vouch for them and he's running around the 500bhp mark :-D

That lotus must be a complete animal! My S3 is around 360-380bhp and goes well enough but 420 in something that weighs less that a crisp packet must be insane!

There is a forum rolling road day on the 26th April would be great to see your beast on the rollers :-D

Ok, I will try to sort this weekend. Thanks for the reply and yes it's pretty lively! Ran a 10 second 1/4 at Santa Pod a while back apparently...previous owner again.

Where is the rolling road day? Assuming the car hasn't exploded by then I'd love to attend.

AMD Essex :-D on the 26th of April

See you have joined the rolling road day :-D nice work look forward to seeing that ;-)

I have indeed, I would hope that by April I'll either have a fully working car (and be bankrupt) or have sold the Lotus and be there in the A45.
