Do you have to have tech pack high to get this, or can you get this update with the standard tech pack?

You can update the tech pack without connect, I've already performed one on mine last year...

Thanks veeight. I've been reading through that. Still confused whether I should go for the Europe one or just UK.

Well, do you want to update the whole of Europe, or just the UK ?

I've decided to download the complete package, based on the fact that I can, rather than needing outside of UK........downloading now (18gb). Based on the comments in FAQ, I've also ordered a 32gb card as there are reports of issues on 64gb cards, although this sounds dubious to me.

I've gone for whole of Europe update (as I did last time).

Probably worth formatting the SD as FAT32 (not sure on other file system compatibility). Shove it in a spare SD slot and kick it off!

Wonder if they have put the "new" roundabout near my house in this one...

I wonder if they have updated the routing to not suggest me driving via a 3 foot deep ford when heading south... it's not even the quickest route (even if I was driving a Defender 90).

But I can't tell as the car is out and about!

Anyone got any recommendations on which 32GB SD card to get?

The cheapest. Honestly, it really doesn't matter.

In case anyone runs into problems performing the update

(eg: You need Java)

The FAQ has all the tips, instructions and hints ;)

I've looked through these, and the Audi pdf, but my (two part) query doesn't appear to be covered:

1. Can the SD SatNav be updated, or just the Tech Pack version?
2. If the SD SatNav can be updated, do I need to download the updates onto a blank SD, remove the orginial Audi SD, insert the new one, tell the MMI to update and then replace the original Audi SD or do I simply put the original Audi SD in my computer and overwrite it? As you may imagine, the prospect of the second option makes me rather nervous, lest something should go wrong and I FUBAR £600 worth of data.

1. Pretty sure the myAudi site updates only apply to Tech Pack and Tech Pack with Connect
2. See (1.)

Correct, on the tech pack the maps are loaded onto the hard drive which the sd sat nav isn't as they are on the card.

Haha. Should have checked before downloading 18gb. My car (BW47) already has this update!! Doh!

Glad you said this, mine is BW45 so would assume mine is up to date as well. How can you tell as it just says Digital Europe Map 2015 on the download link, no version number it would appear.

When checking the version in the car, it also says Europe 2015, so have assumed it is the same.

Just download the 18GB file and then find it is the same as your current map (as I did using my Devon 1.5MB internet connection!). That's great fun!

im running the 64GB with no problems

I use a 64GB card without issue. My dashcam though kept going wrong with a 64GB card in it but is fine with 32 - so it's not an unreasonable assumption or question.

So what's the deal (or lack of one) with SD SatNav? Do we not get updates?

No, sorry - Tech pack only. I think because the update loads onto the hard drive in the tech pack version, and the SD cards are activated with the specific hardware they are in (to avoid resale I expect).

Could be the transfer speed of the sd card which is causing these problems. I got a decent deal on one with quick transfer speeds on ebuyer.com. Hope that helps your problem

64gb and 128gb sd cards will work fine for music or videos but it doesn't seem to work with map updates on my car. Has to be 32gb...

Mine is updating at the minute. About half way through at the moment. I must say the update system is pretty good - just does its stuff in the background while you can still use everything, and don't have to leave the car on or anything!

I got in contact with audi just to see how much it would be to get the update loaded on my 2012 a3... £200 :(
Also he said it doesn't come with speed camera detection, apparently it's illegal in Europe

Yeh, it's expensive for the normal updates. Did you ask if you could get a version that was a year out of date for cheaper? I have a friend who does that - means you are a year behind but it's a LOT cheaper.

I'm assuming you have Connect but your car was built prior to them offering the online updates? Speed camera detection can be added as POIs using the SD card system within Connect but it will not give audible warnings which makes it less than useful. I use Pocket GPS World for my updates.

That's a good idea, I will try that tomorrow. Still think it's crazy that 2012's don't get it free, I guess I'm jealous

Yep that's right im prior to the updates. I see what you mean about the poi's and speed cameras, clever. Just had a look at pocket gps world, can you put it on to the car satnav? Is it reliable?

It is kind of crappy that they only give updates to cars after a certain date. TBH, it's crap enough that even those that do have updates only have 5.

Yes you download the PGPSW file and using the MyAudi instructions for putting your own POIs on your system you can import the speed cameras. It's totally reliable (it's updated every week) but I update mine no more than once a month as it takes a bit of time to do. I also have other personal POIs on my system such as National Trust houses, English Heritage sites etc (but then I am old!). The big disadvantage is there is no warning sound (that's an Audi limitation not PGPSW) but there are ways to incorporate sounds (have a search on this forum as I can't remember the link).

Mine's BW46 - what exact map version is your MMI reporting so I can check mine?

EDIT: Ignore me - just seen v8's post

If MyAudi is showing an update and you've already got this version then surely Audi are diddling you out of one of your free 5 updates?
