Hi guys,

I lowered my audi yesterday and just little worried about damaging the underside of the car. I have driven lowered cars before but not this low. Has anyone had issues before? Is the sump covered on the 1.9tdi at all?

Thanks

I have been told you get a metal undertray made for around £150. Anymore pics?

So is that plastic thing the sump? Excuse the cheesy grin :p

Wow that is low, bit of a reverse rake though. The plastic thing is just an engine guard. You would want to replace it with a metal one. What coilovers are u running?

My 03 3 door 2.0 TDi is slightly lower on coil overs. I have been driving it daily for about a year and 19,000 miles and not done any serious damage or got seriously stuck.
Go careful! I have scrapped my sump crawling over things, but the lowest part is the plastic guards the run front to back of the car next to the sills, they will scrape on things but not damage.
The next lowest thing (Higher by about 5mm) is the mounting bolts for the front subframe, I have damaged them hitting speed bumps wrong, they sound terrible and really mustn't be damaged!
The front subframe is a few mm above the bolts, Mine is pretty badly scraped from speed bumps and hitting potholes on gravel tracks. This is not such a major issue, but it sounds horrible.
The sump is a good 15mm above the subframe, unless you go over about 20mph into a split speed bump, you should be ok, the sub frame will hit long before the sump.

Bottom line is, drive carefully! You could quite easily do seriouse damage!
I make sure to put on wheel up on split speed bumps, and gravel track and potholes are a big problem is you if you drop a wheel into one!
I have alos gotten beached while mounting half on a standard curb!

Few pics of mine, they are from a while ago so the damage is a lot worse now.
The front bumper also scrapes over speed bumps, as a result, both the front mud guards got smashed off and the central mounting lug has snapped off the bumper.

Underside of mine looked like @bentwenty when it was lowered on AP's, subframe took a good battering but never had a problem with the sump.

If you really are concerned, as mentioned above, you can basically get a metal sheet to protect it which aren't too expensive.

The sumps are really quite high on these. My bora however looked like this a couple of time..

Mines 'proper low' and the only damage to the underside is to the plastic cover, which is no biggy.
Driving carefully around normal streets, there shouldnt be any problems. The only place ive had problems with it being so low is in the dockyard down in portsmouth haha;)
