The car is a 1.8 TFSI (160) 2008 A4 on 47k but the question is about the engine so hopefully owners of other models can help.

Basically there is an hesitation on the engine when accelerating hard under full load. Usually happens at around 4,000 - 5,000 rpm, feels like I've hit a brick wall when it happens, the needle just sticks for a second and then it returns to normal and continues to acceleration. The problem is intermittent but really annoying when it happens. I've ran it on V power on the last three tanks and put a can of BG44K through it recently but it hasn't helped.

The Sparks are due a change - could it be down to that? There's also a fault code for position sensor in the manifold that it's had since I've bought it but it's only just started happening.. Any ideas?

If the light is on, you have your answer. Have it checked with vag com and post here the fault code.
