Exhaust gas temp sensor .. On the Mrs Audi a1.

I know this is not an a3/s3 but feel you can help me on this one as the a1 side of the forum isn't as active as the a3/s3. I've got this fault code

The emissions light comes on and shortly followed by a coil looking light. My question is ... How do i find out if it's the sensor on top or after the dpf ...? It's a 1.6 tdi. Cheers lads hope you can help :)
 
Assuming thats Bank 1 Sensor 3 it will be the one after the DPF. The first one is pre turbo , second is pre DPF and third post DPF.
If you track the lead from the sensor to the plug and pull the plug you should get another event which will be an open circuit fault.

I had this problem on a couple of weeks ago on an A3, it turned out to be an expensive job, as the old sensor snapped off when they attempted to get it out.
This resulted in the subframe and exhausts system having to be removed to access the sensor.
The bill went from the £180 quoted to £424 after the job was complete. This was at an Indy specialist, can't imagine what Audi would of charged me to do the job.
Hope yours is much simpler to do on an A1.
 
That's not good buddi ! :( Audi quoted £144 for the part, so hoping it won't cost no more then that lol !
 
Have you definately proved which sensor is faulty by pulling the connector on the sensor and checking with VCDS.
I replaced an EGT sensor on a neighbours car, a 2010 1.6 Seat Ibiza TDI that was possibly very similar to this. It was the post DPF sensor and was a real pig to get at. As stated above you have to drop the subframe to get the DPF out.
I am struggling to see how one of these snapped off TBH. In the end because the thing was so tight and it was difficult to get any purchase on the ring spanner I used a junior hacksaw and cut through the metal "pipe" that comes out of the sensor.
This in itself wasn't easy due to the tight space but when that was cut off I could use a socket with a UJ and some exstensions to undo it from the top. Doing this I could get a lot more leverage and undo the sensor.
After that it was a walk in the park.

Yeah i was shown the part that was removed. It was a mess, the mechanic thinks it was put in cross threaded. This causing it to sheer off when he attempted to remove it.
I don't doubt their work as they are a very reputable place. Well known in Lincolnshire.
So I am sure they were honest in their diagnostics.
