1st Official 8V RS3 shots

I have to say, going by the 2 Photos above, the S3 looks the Sportier Car!!

.............The New RS3 is obviously going to be a great Car, but in the current 5Door 'Sportback' offering, it just reminds me of a Shoe on wheels!!

Cant get my head round why Manufacturers make Top Spec Fast 4Door Hatchbacks anyway, as they just look so Un-Sporty!

I think that most people wont consider one of these Cars until Audi Offers it in a Saloon variant, giving it a more Sporty Presence & more in line on what everyone was initially expecting.i.e A3 Clubsport!

It does appear to me that the arches are slightly more flared - but its hard to tell the difference until an RS3 is pictures next to an S3 SB
It has flared arches it's described in the info from audi.

So flared arch and a bit more power......STILL doesn't justify the ridiculous price they are asking. It's a win win though, they know that there are potential customers out there who will pay through the nose for an RS badge.

The front intakes look a bit chavy as well. The S3 has the indents on the sides of the front bumper which look far superior imo.

Cost to Audi to turn an S3 into an RS3 £3-4K if that. Cost to customer £12k basic if not more.

I think I am in the minority, but I like it.

From the RS2 and early RS4s I have always equated 'Rennsport' Audis with being Avant's

So it being a Sportback, looks right to me...

I'll sit back and wait to get shot down.

Your not alone Tej13. I like it too and have had a discussion with my dealer about it. Still not a massive amount of info available on it but there will be soon.

It certainly sounds good.....

Yup you certainly aren't alone, I've also spoken to my dealer about it, specifically about swapping the S3 in and moving to the RS3 in 2 years... The girlfriend doesn't know this yet ;)

If your eagle eyed watching the video you will note that the rev counter now has a new "ready" and "off" positions for the start/stop function. Pretty sure thats not on MY15. That's what BMW do and obviously an enhancement over using DIS. For MY16 ?

I agree with the majority here that the RS3 doesn't look 'special' enough for me to warrant changing from S3....but have to see what the RS3 saloon looks like....if they ever bring one out (I can't see why they wouldn't in these days of multiple variants of the same car).

Also, with some decent performance upgrades on the S3 you are still well within the price of the RS3 for the same or better performance as its a lighter car...but does anyone know if they have changed the underpinnings of the RS3 much from the S3 (suspension, brakes, drive system etc) or is it just 5 pot and badges/minor styling tweaks?

- Newly developed braking system (carbon ceramic fronts will be available - first in this segment I believe).
- "heavily" re-worked suspension and damping. Wider track.
- re-calibrated Haldex to make it more playful
- re-worked 7 speed S-Tronic
- sports exhaust

Screams expensive and bespoke. Hence why it's £40k

One can only hope :p

Especially with the heavier 5-cly lump in the front!

There's nothing like the sound of disappointment when the car understeers with that characteristic brrrrrrr brrrrrr brrrrrr brrrrr noise.............. :(

To be fair, the RS3 press release does promise a lot!!!

I would be shocked if the RS3 is priced at £40k, I think £45k is more realistic without options.

Given a reasonably spec'd S3 is c.£36k, I think the developments quoted above will really push the base price well North of £40k.

I would like to be optimistic as I may consider chopping in my S3 (when it arrives) 18 months down the line for a poverty spec Nardo RS3 at £40k, however I doubt this will be the case.

My dealer has been advised it's starting around £40k. He wasn't 100% sure but either £39,995 or £40,995.

Standard S3 SB S-Tronic is £33,040. So either way it's circa £7k - £8k over an S3. That's quite a premium and sounds about right to me.

I'm earger to see the RS3 price here in Switzerland considering the CHF rate has jumped about 20% compared to Euro ;-)

But the like the Audi brochure's, don't the Audi press releases always tell the truth, the whole truth & nothing but the truth ... :tapedshut:

I just hope they deliver on that press release BH. It's becoming a crowded market this super German hot hatch segment (what else can we seriously call it???). Not to mention the following insane stuff on the horizon!

A45 AMG facelift - with a P.S figure higher than an RS3 and still from a 2.0 litre that doesn't need a service every 2k miles!

A45 AMG Black Edition - 400 P.S?

Golf R400

M2 (rumoured 370 P.S)

I hope it delivers dynamically - it's going to need to!

Some interesting choices coming up, that's for sure buddy :thumbs up:

Crazy figure the manufacturers are achieving from 2 litre cars at the mo. Just wondering how it will effect reliability ...

Golf R400? Don't tell @veeeight lol

It sounds immense.. i agree the loom might not be to everyones taste but you cant argue regards the noise!

Completely agree Tej13! I love that fast Audis are generally Avants!

Why should anyone needing practicality have to sacrifice performance...

I'd love BMW to do an 'F81 M3', but not holding my breath! I think they're missing a trick as Audi must be running away with the market?!

Only thing for me is, I'd like Audi to give the option of manual RS cars, but think that may be a thing of the past!!

What happened to the RS4?
Better than all of the aforementioned.

After reading those reviews I cannot wait to read more after some real road tests. They have made the new S3 a more fun and chuckable car, so why not the new RS3 too? I know the engines heavier, but they sound like they may have fixed any associated problems with the new diff. I hope so.....and then if they made it look like the Clubsport concept.....well, then I might just have to take my trousers off...
Sadly, I doubt this will go on sale here in Panama.....you think UK roads are bad??!!? They steal manhole covers here for scrap I **** you not!
No RS4 here either...sigh....onto upgrading my S3 :)

Some cool vids here. Better if you understand what they're saying but makes me want the car even more. Sounds immense! And looks so much better than the press shots.

I want one! Simple as that but can't afford one atm maybe a couple of yrs

Did that german guy just say starting from about €50,000

I wish they'd make a saloon version.

Oh dear. The more I am seeing, the more I'm thinking about getting one...

I love the sound of a straight 5. But, I don't need or want 5 doors.

I feel it could be this and a BMW M2 to choose from in a couple of years time.

Or that new mustang with the 5.0L V8.....

Does the last video start saying its got 366PS or have I mis heard it? It definitely starts with a 3 though so no 400PS/BHP engine there :(

If the price is correct then it's cheaper than what was leaked on the German Audi site.

I wonder if I should cancel my order for the saloon and wait for this?

Would I lose my deposit or would the dealer just transfer it to the new car?

Decisions, mmmm.

I hate this drip feed approach to car launches.......just give us the information. We are still another 4 weeks away from any concrete info on it. These recent journo videos don't really add anything to the "ride alongs" and press release from months ago.

Recent Chris Harris article on Jalopnik was bang on regarding how the car industry drags out these things.

thanks for the vids Skavia......snap, crackle and pop my cherry! it sounds biblical and if it comes in saloon version I want it very badly

I have a sneaking suspicion that you're correct saying that. All of the recent product improvements (A6, A7, A8, S1) have the 'ready' indicator on the rev Meter. It's so when the start stop kicks in, you know it's ready to restart the engine when you lift your foot off the brake or touch the accelerator (depending on whether you have hill hold assist)
