I think I probably would. I had a TDI 140, which was a good car but I changed it for a 3.2 and I love it.
The S3 is a bit more focused but, it's down to taste. It's a nice looking car that you can play with.
The TDI is a nice car to live with and it can be made to look and go better.

Ive just gone the other way, depends if you can justify 25mpg over 45+, higher insurance premium and tax, (£30 vs £265 for me)...
Lots of thing to make your decision. I'll highlight a couple
- what is your gut feeling?
- are you entirely happy with your current car (has it been letting you down, or is it solid as a rock?) versus the S3 - do you know enough about it, even if it is just from a test drive, to 'sell' its realibility. Better the devil you know, or worthy enough to take the plunge?

I was going to say 57 can be factory facelifted so be aware that something fishy could be done to the car
