My b8 needs an EGR valve

Disaster! Engine light on, glow plug pre-heater light on, audi recovered my car and are fitting a new EGR under warrenty thank God! Wish I had read the stuff on EGR cleaning!

Any other advice I should get to prevent common issues?

(A4 B8 136ps -2011)

As above made sure when mine was mapped the EGR was deleted and disabled.
 
Strange. I was expecting you to say slow speed short journeys. Sounds like your runs should keep the EGR clean.
 
yes blank it off
 
nope. you can still have it in place. for example there are a few variant of ways on different models and marques.

They can be removed and replaced with a pipe.

They can be still intact and blanked using a blanking plate

They also can be still intact and closed electronically.

all have to be altered in the ECU
