Visited aStealer today. Took a test drive.

Told that need to connect phone in glovebox to play music, not to ami behind gearbox. Is this correct..?

I was also offered a discount on cars in stock about 8% off price if ready to take early delivery so dealer can meet targets for this month. Is this a good deal.?

Was offered pcp - is this a good deal. ? Didn't see any terms and conditions but was told it is a good idea because you can update car every three years. You just get a new car at the end and continue to pay monthly. No mention of having to pay a balance as there is a guaranteed futre value.

Can you get pcp on Annwyl used car?

Was also offered upholstery and paint protection is this worth it - perhaps worth it in South Wales where I live?

Finally are xenon headlamps a sensible option are they better than normal headlamps.

Xenons are amazing. Would never buy a car without now.
Paint protection etc is a waste of money. Dealer gap insurance is a rip off, you can buy cheaper policys online. No idea what they are on about connecting phone in the glove box

Thanks. Might consider xenons but they are very expensive.

Told that need to connect phone in glovebox to play music, not to ami behind gearbox. Is this correct..? No. I have SD card in glove box and my iPod connected by AMI cable in the glove box.

I was also offered a discount on cars in stock about 8% off price if ready to take early delivery so dealer can meet targets for this month. Is this a good deal.? That's not too bad - you could probably push for more if they are desperate to hit their target.

Was offered pcp - is this a good deal. ? Didn't see any terms and conditions but was told it is a good idea because you can update car every three years. You just get a new car at the end and continue to pay monthly. No mention of having to pay a balance as there is a guaranteed futre value. Depends on your personal circumstances. PCP is an affordable way of getting a new car that you can either buy at the end of the agreement (for a guaranteed amount), hand back and walk away or trade in for another car. I think a good number of cars are financed this way.

Can you get pcp on Annwyl used car? I know you can on used Audi's from a dealership. Can be more expensive as the finance rates are usually not as keen as on new deals.

Was also offered upholstery and paint protection is this worth it - perhaps worth it in South Wales where I live? If you look at the "FAQ's" or the search function you will find much debate on these extras......

Finally are xenon headlamps a sensible option are they better than normal headlamps. Not sure if you are looking at Sport or S-line spec but the latter has them standard. Yes, Xenons are better than halogen headlamps and I personally would never buy a car without them.

My advice would be to look at a new one, speccing it through the likes of Carwow and Carfile etc. You should be able to get 10% or more off using these. When I was looking and I'm sure it's the same now, a new one wasn't that much more expensive than a nearly new one and I got to spec the car I wanted.

I guess it depends on if you can wait for it to be built.

Definitely do your research into PCP. I think it works well but it depends on your own financial circumstances.

Forget about all the add-ons Audi offer you. They are a waste of money. The only one worth having in my opinion is GAP insurance but you will be able to get this elsewhere for around half the price Audi offer it to you for.

Thanks for all the replies - the media video was especially handy.

I'm a bit worried thsat info form the stealers isn't salways correct and that they seem more interensted in paint protection and extras rather than the car itself"!

Paint protection is a classic way of them clawing back some of the money they've lost on giving you an enticing discount. Basically, you can buy the same stuff for £30 and four hours of your time to apply it.

If you dislike DEALERS that much to call them stealers, why oh why did you bother going to one?

As far as xenons are concerned. They aren't really necessary. Unless you go out in the dark. Then they are.

I have only referred to a dealer as a stealer following my visit to one. Until my visit I thought that they were there to sell cars, advise and make a reasonable profit.

However, my visit and the way it was handled made it clear that it was the delaer whowas in charge. I was clear as to what I wanted but was sat down and asked what my needs were with the emphasis on selling

GAP insurance
Supaguard
Seat upholstery protection
PCP
Options

The help on purchasing the car was totally secondary. Furthermore, I seeemed to know more than the gentlemen advising me who said things which were completely wrong.

There were a number of things said which were wrong and misleading and obviously said in order me to purchase a vehicle at terms and conditions whic suited them.

For example I was advised that a bank loan was a no no and Audi PCP a better solution. No mention was made of the 7%APR or other fees.

Similarly I was given calculations for GAP insurance with no mention made that most insurers will replace your car with a new one in the first year.

I was also told that the PCP was subsidised by AUDI - but how can they subsidise a scheme where there is APR and fees?

I was also advised that it was very difficult to get hold of SE's so a more expensive model would be better - not correct I presume.

In the PCP no mention was made of having to return the car in a good condition nor thatthe Guaranteed Futre Value although guaranteed is less than what the market value is likely to be.

All in all I left having learnt nothing about the product and being lead down the garden path towards a deal which suited their needs and not mine. All very well and good if all the info was fair and there was no misleading. Having been told so many incorrect things and having been treated a s aperson they could take advantage of no wonder I referred to then as stealkers, and this form a brnad which one woukd expect to have some integrity.

I appreciate that dealers have to make a living but that should be by telling the truth and not by taking advantage.

This wasn't an individual used car lot under the arches in the east end after all.

So that's why I feel unhappy.

Indeed I think that if I had recorded the conversation with the salesman they would be interested................

I had wanted a test drive on the Sport S line suspension but didn'r get it.

Exactly as this chap says.

Martha, how far away are you from Worcester, and are you willing to travel there?

If so I can put you in touch with someone at Worcester Audi who is the complete opposite of your experience.

No, YOU are in charge, the dealer is there to work for you if you are buying a new car. If you don't like that DEALER then walk away. There are plenty of other good ones who WILL help you.

So if you go to a Solicitor and he tries to fleece you for busines and tries to rip you off telling untruths and misleading and giving incompetnet advice I should say - ok sorry to have bothered you you are rubbish I will go somehwere else no problem, even though I have travelled some distance and wasted half a day!? i DON'T THINK SO. Wil I even know that the SOlicitor has given me bad advice? Probably not as I go to him for expertise.

Audi are supposedly a reputable brand - and they shouldn't treat customers by saying things whoich are incorrect and totally untrue and misleading.

I am in charge that's why I will go someplace elsae, even though here in SOuth West Wales it's not as easy as in say Manchester. I am in charge bwecause i've now doen my homework and found the part ex they gave me was significantly less than that on Parkers.

hOWEVER, MNOST PUNTERS ARE not IN CHARGE AND THEY EXPECT GOING FOR ADVICE TO A REPUTABLE BRAND TO COME OUT WITHOUT HAVING BEEN MISLEAD.
I am thnking now of making a complaint ot Audi.

If I get an Audi I dread how servicing will be like. Another VAG garage messed my previous car twice - overfilling with oil and being unable to fix a head gadsket leak and the car clocked up 340 miles whilst in for a week.

ANyway thanks for the comments regaridng Audi Worcester - I'm not saying that every Audi delaer is bad, but definitley too many of them are, and Audi doesn't care so long as sales are up!.

Nope, the AMI connection is in the storage compartment under the armrest.

Err, there is no AMI connection in the glovebox. This was the case on the previous 8P model and, to be frank, I wish they'd kept it that way.

Chill - I call both the glove box! Easier to call then "storage compartment under the armrest" :lick:

Thanks for the clarification.

I remember being told that yu can adjust the ride quality on an A3 VIA aUDI DRIVE SELECT, BUT i DON'T THINK IT DEOS THIS DOES IT - THIS ADJUSTS THE CHARACTERISTICS OD THE POWER STEERIN AND ACCELERATOR BUT NOIT THE RIDE, BUT i AM TOLD IT DOES BY AUDI.

It does, but only if you have the Magnetic Ride Option specified (Standard on S3 Saloon),

Yeah- well the stealer didn't say that or that it was extra he implied it was standard one very A3.

I would change your Audi main dealer that you are using for purchase and or advice Martha

Is there another one near to you that you could use?

No, they are all out to get him, lol.

Yeah- well the stealer didn't say that or that it was extra he implied it was standard one very A3.

Are you sure he said that? Play monsieur devils advocate, the sheer number of questions you've been raising, even before you got there, via here, makes me think you are almost as much hard work as my wifey in the new car stakes! They won't know everything, and they are salesman first. And second.

Yes definite he said that. I appreciate that they might not know everything but then they should say they don't know and find out not give out wrong information.

I am sorry that I am asking questions so much but I need to know things. Sometimes you need a good wife to ask questions that a male person might not have though about!

I agree with you that they are salesmen, but they shouldn't be conmen either!

^ yes you're quite correct, my bad. I had S3 in my mind when writing that.

I think Martha that when you say Audi you really mean ONE Audi dealer, and possibly just one poor salesman. As veeeight says there are plenty of good ones out there so please don't tar them all with the same brush. It might mean a little more of a drive but why not go to another and ask the same questions? I doubt you'll get the same answers from them.

The other recommendation I'd make is to spend a few hours reading the FAQS section on this site. Veeeight especially has pulled together many diverse threads into sensible sections. That way you'll be clued up when you go to your (new?) dealer.

And here is the Good Dealer Bad Dealer guide

http://www.audi-sport.net/xf/threads/best-and-worst-stealers.229493/

Just to answer one of your previous queries:
The PCP scheme offered by Audi dealers is called "Solutions", and is underwritten by VWFS (VW Financial Services). So in effect, they can "subsidise" (or rather make it more attractive) their own scheme by setting a higher GMFV, change the interest rate, change the fees and factors that affect the APR. For example, on a new A3, the APR is 7.4%, but if you buy a RS4, the APR is 4.9%. Now, the latter RS4 PCP really is attractive ;)

Note that many finance companies offer PCP's, you don't have to use Audi Solutions, many do, because of the convenience. But very often you can find better PCP deals out there, if you're willing to go through the hassle of selling your existing car privately, and ordering through a 3rd party finance company.

Use Swansea Audi for Servicing.
They are really good and don't mess you about.

However, avoid Swansea AND Cardiff Audi for buying the vehicle.
Both are horrendous and will only try to sell you the car that they want to sell.

I had to travel over to Taunton Audi - brilliant sales service there.
Funnily enough, even Slough Audi were very good. Had I not bought from Taunton, then I definitely would have from Slough.

The problem with the Welsh Branches is that they think we are tied to them - so they really don't need to try.
There's plenty of Nutters out there that will take the hassle and buy off them.

Hope all goes well in your search.

:)

+1

For the time being don't really want to but it is owned by a fairly large company and not a small franchise.

I'll answer 2 questions:

1. YES - Xenon's are 100% worth it, they light the road way better and look that much nicer on the car.

2. About the media connections:

You can connect your phone/ipod to the MMI in the armrest, they should give you a cable for one. This will charge your device and play music off it, you can also control which song to play through the car, no need for the phone. I also THINK (not sure) if you connect your phone this way and not over bluetooth, you get a better quality phone call as bluetooth is a little degrading.

Bluetooth Audio you can use also, but the quality is naff compared.

SD Card in the Glovebox, I use this at the moment and sound quality is great.
CD player in Glovebox next to SD Card slots.

There is no Aux input, which i'm surprised about. AUX must be old fashioned already! Or Audi are being cheap. Then again, I guess the MMI/AMI connection in the arm rest is their version

With xenons do you get different rear lights?

Martha I'm so sorry to hear of your poor experience. I must say that I've had good and bad salesmen at the same dealer. The ideal would be for some one on here that knows the South Wales dealers to recommend a good salesman.

Can any one do this for Martha? In the meantime get as much information as you can, get a printed copy of the sales brochure and read it thoroughly so you have more knowledge of what goes with what.

Its good to be in control, but it's not always easy. If you feel unsure, uncomfortable or don't have confidence in the salesman, walk away.

I hope you get a good deal and a satisfactory experience. No wonder they say buying a car is the next most stressful thing to buying a house.

Good luck.

Afraid not. Phone connectivity for calls is always via bluetooth, regardless of whether the phone is connected to the AMI - that's only for media.

Audi used to offer cradles which made a physical connection to the handset for calls but the only real advantage of this was using the sharkfin aerial for better reception. You could still use bluetooth if you preferred and it would switch between the two automatically.

They started to go away from this as providing cradles for new phones became a nightmare. Even the iPhone cradles they provided towards the end warned that they simply provided power and all connectivity was now via bluetooth. Now the cradles have gone altogether.
