I have been investigating remap options and thought all was straight forward until today.
I have just been speaking to my local tuning specialist and he said that my car could be a plug and play or require the ECU removing!
This had never been mentioned on any of the quotes I've had or even on websites during browsing, this also includes the previous two occasions I got a quote from place in question!
The problem is that it could exceed my budget as well as just be a logistical nightmare to be without the car for a few days!
Can anyone tell me off hand what type I have?
It's an A5 3.0tdi Quattro sport registered October 2008!

Find a tuner who knows what they are doing.
@Rick @ Unicorn Motor Dev. remapped mine in the car it's June 2008, AFAIK know he can do any of the EDC17 ECU's in the car. You used to have to remove them but now it's possible to do them in situ.
Have a look at my build thread linked in the signature 312bhp 720Nm .
If you are anywhere near Stockport have a word with him, Best thing to do is look around and find a good tuner.
There are plenty of people out there mapping cars but some are a lot better than others.

Cheers
I'm up in Newcastle and have a few options of where to go it was just that they threw a curve ball with this, is it or isn't it plug in!
If it is plug in, those guys at Revolution along with Celtic tuning are my best options I feel.
Both around the £280-£300 and both quoting around 288bhp and 590nm ish which is good enough.
I wanted to break 300bhp but I don't want to start with my dpf although I and getting a custom exhaust and had hope couple with a remap might have allowed that figure to be reached!

very rare they need to be bench flashed

but even if it does its still only a few hours job not a few days.

but as above chat to someone that has the proper tools and knows what there doing.

Have you looked at http://www.theperformancecentre.co.uk/ they used to be known as Sedox Performance UK.
They have a 4WD dyno. A forum member recently gad his 3.0 TDI mapped there.
I was on my list of places to go when I was getting mine mapped but went to Ricks in the end.

Karl.
