I'm posting in this forum as I currently have an 8P diesel, also it is the busiest forum and likely to get the most exposure, but I'm thinking of an A4 Allroad 3.0TDI replacement and really it is a generic diesel query.

I just wondered in addition to a remap/tuning box what the consequences of a DPF removal/de-gut (is that a word?) were in regard to MOT time. Looking at historic posts the thoughts were that it would not unduly present problems providing the exhaust system looked fairly standard for a visual inspection, but I wondered if that remained the case or whether there was now more technological examination of the exhaust emissions which could be problematic.

Your thoughts would be appreciated.
K.

It's still a visual inspection so assuming it's been gutted and then refitted, you should be fine

It's worth getting to know your MOT tester ;)

I have a family member that has had their a3 tdi dpf gutted it flies through mot 2 years on the trot
Why wouldn't it - visually everything is the same :icon thumright:
If you go for a bypass pipe then yes you will fail your MOT

It's only a smoke test on a diesel, not emissions check

As above currently no issues, my 3.0 TDI with a gutted DPF passed the test no problem on the fast pass.
If at some point in the future they change the rules regarding the limits then there may be an issue but I have seen no evidence to say that they are going to do this.

dont even need a friendly MOT tester' we do loads. if the job is done properly then its not an issue. Cars seem to run much nicer etc with them removed and a decent remap to compensate it. also another positive is that there isnt any future worry of problems from the DPF or even it causing turbo problems.
