The time has come now to replace my standard Cat back system out of necessity, I didn't have enough cash to fork out for the Milltek so after a bit of searching I found the Magnex Cat back which are being sold on special at moment to make room for their new range (apparantly). Originally put off by the massive oval tailpipe which seems excessive but swayed by the cheap price tag (£320) in the end I bought one. I have read many reviews on their exhausts which all seemed to suggest the quality was good but it would be good to know if anyone has actually used one on theirs or have any opinions (good or bad). I'm really hoping it wont be loud or obscene.
Thanks

Steve

I think the original price tag is waaaaay OTT which probably put many people off along with the tailpipe

Anybody got one or seen one on an S3?

ive bought one but its waiting to be fitted.
im hoping not too loud and flows ok though

Mine hasn't arrived yet (ordered it about a week before christmas) but should be fitting it next weekend hopefully, will be interesting to see how it performs. It looks as though it will flow good as there is very little restriction in the back box.

You'll have to let us know how you get on Daz please

Steve

mine wont be on for ages mate :(
cars having loads of work done
you keep me posted haha

Any chance you can send a link to the reduced price exhaust?
Thanks in advance
It looks like the listing has ended, they may relist it when they are back in the office again on the 5th If they have any left. I know they only had a limited amount of these left to sell but because the listing has ended I can't link it. Here's a screenshot tho if you want to search for it or contact them

I've not found anyone yet with one fitted on their S3 8L but they are selling them. People on other forums have all said the quality is really good and not too loud either so I guess we'll see. I'll post up my findings soon when I've fitted mine

Just a quick update if anyone is interested, After getting home from work this evening I decided to put the car on the ramps and fit the Magnex. It went together quite well although I couldnt figure out how the coupling was supposed to fit but overall quality is good. They dont supply a flange gasket or nuts/bolts to fit the rear section to the middle so had to order a 70mm gasket and find some M10 bolts and nuts.

The bad bit:
IT IS LOUD, enough to give you headache when driving, outside it sounds good but inside the car it seems much louder so I'm going to see what sound proofing I can do to it.

I noticed the car overboosts quite a bit now so I lifted off when boost hit nearly 2 Bar I'm hoping this will settle with adaption, can anyone confirm this

Here's a short clip of the Magnex exhaust for comparison, it is dark and yes the car is very dirty, I know someone will pick up on that

Nice video,

I was wondering if you had a video of the inside whilst driving? how bad is it? As I'm not keen on a continuous droning noise!

it looks great, sounds great, i bet its light as hell, and a performer too.

what's the diameter? 2.75"?

wrapping the exhaust with heat wrap may reduce the noise a little bit, maybe. Im sure you'll get used to it.

Do you have decat or downpipe ?
Hi mate, yes I have a 3" DP & sport cat so it was louder than standard before, I'll try and post up a vid today of inside, Atm there is that horrid drone noise, if I cant get rid of it or get used to it I dont think it will be staying on too long, but other than that its great

Its a fraction of the weight compared to the standard one, that alone should be noticable, its 2.75" diameter.
Thats a great idea Karl about wrapping it I never thought of that and I think it'll make a difference :) thanks.

Hi mate Thanks, yes i'll post a vid later today of the inside for you, I will say tho if I'd known how bad it was I wouldn't have bought it but i'm sure it can be reduced. I'll let you make your own opinion on it when I post later

What turbo and manifold are you running?

Stock manifold is really restrictive and having a very free flowing exhaust may induce some boost creep - path of least resistance but 2 bar on a stock ko4 is just silly unless you can run on E85

Hi, yes stock mani and K04 which is Requesting 1.4bar peak, a while back I was running it at 1.7bar peak which I know is way too much for this turbo, it runs happily on 1.4 tho. I'm hoping after some adaption it may settle but unsure if it will settle back to 1.4 bar

I am in the process of getting everything ready to go bigger so this turbo and mani will be going then but still lots to do first

No probs mate, I was worried the tail pipe was going to look daft but I think it looks good.

So when do you think you'll have yours back on the road Daz? It should be a bit of a monster when its finnished. I'm looking forward to finding out how you get on as I have very similar plans :) and did you get your wmi fitted yet?

Steve

no wmi for the mean while,
it should be good, being stripped helps a lot with performance plus all the added noise.
im hoping to have it complete within 6 weeks including mapping but that depends on bills waiting list of course.
i will give a review of it on here once im done!
i hope it goes good! lol

Hi all, so I managed to put together another clip filmed from inside the car whilst driving as requested, my iphone didnt pick up the full sound so it isn't quite as loud in the vid.

I didn't want to push it too hard due to the over-boosting earlier (which seems to have settled now) but you'll see

Steve

cool vid
sounds fine to me
but you say its jot as had
how much worse in flesh

The tone is the same as in the vid but the volume is quite a bit louder, a little bit like when you have a deep sub on at high volume you get that air turbulance or air vibration in the car, its a shame it wasnt picked up on audio

hmmm
well be interesting to see if mines the same then
suspect its worse seeing my car is empty lol
