Right, i've got my A3 as of yesterday, and have been trying to get music on an SD card to go in the car, cut a long story short I copied my iTunes music folder into the SD card which then didn't work well, as there was no album art + I had many songs that were in folders which contained one song -_-

I then took every song out the folders, into the SD card - I plugged it in the car and it went down one by one making them grey and unclickable, then doubling them up?

Basically, I would like to know what you guys did to copy the music to the SD card, because I must be doing something wrong.

Still experimenting with mine. I basically copied all of the folders (Artist folders in root). Car picks it all up fine, burst I've got an issue with some tracks being duplicated.........think this is a known issue and I'm still working on that.

Believe me when I say I'm no techie geek but I just put the empty SD card into my pc, opened the folder for ITunes then did a click and drag over to the SD card. Worked a treat with no issues at all. I don't have the album artwork but that's not an issue for me. Once the SD card is in the car I can access each artist from the MMI control. Hope this helps but I'm sure this issue has been covered a few times in the 8V section if you do a search.

I did similar. What has amazed me is that I do have the album artwork. I thought itunes stored these in a different folder somewhere, but somehow I have them working ok.......and I can't see any jpg's in the individual folders!

No problems copying the music onto an SD card here either. Just copied the contents of the iTunes Music folder onto the card, so that if you open the card you see a list of artist folders, with their albums in folders within them.

Art is a separate issue. Do a search and you'll find various solutions. I used a paid-for app called bliss to sort mine out, but it wasn't a quick job!

Did you guys check the FAQ?

All the answers are in there !

I didn't go near iTunes. On my PC in my Music folder I have folders for different types of music, then within each of them folders for Artist and within them Album and then tracks.
Copied the contents of the music folder to the SD card and everything just worked, including album art.

This is fine here also except !

- high quality mp3 coding (above 128kb/s) ?
- mp3 with variable bit rates....

Poor embedded mp3 decoder it seems :-(

My MP3 coding is 128kbp/s minimum but mostly 320kbp/s. I have the B&O system and had been worried, based on posts on here, that I might have the dreaded 'crackle' but so far (touch wood) no issues.

Could be a case of ignorance is bliss, in my case :unconscious:
I've almost exclusively either ripped 320kbps MP3s from my own CDs years ago or purchased and downloaded the same from Amazon. I didn't know about VBR at the time so that may be the reason I'm not getting problems that others are reporting.
However good the car audio system is there is always extraneous noise so being OCD over lossless formats seems a lost cause.

Ok thanks guys i'll give it another go.

As for not reading the FAQ's, I'm rubbish at that stuff, so thank you for the links for it, thats gave me a better understanding. New threads are good too though! ;)

No, I just tried copying & pasting and the m4a ones won't work which is most of them, so i'm getting quite bummed out of knowing what to do. Does iTunes have an export? I don't want to use mp3 though as thats lower sound quality I believe. I might as well get the iPod nano back off my girlfriend and use that lol

Look J4MMY use the FAQ and the search function or the sweet little pooch gets it.............

Right i've had enough, I thought I was cooking on gas for a moment because the car seemed to make duplicates of the music, that did work, and all I have to do is plug it back into my mac and delete the songs that haven't been converted or what ever happens.

I tried my iPhone afterwards and it seemed a lot better clarity and quality though.. the base didn't seem to blow and was more of a punchy noise, the sound settings are the exact same for both SD and 'iPod' so I can't get my head around it. Only thing I don't like about the iPhone being plugged in all the time is it keeps charging it, which knackers the battery up.

Hmmm :/

Okay, for some reason what ever I try to do, all the MMI does when i connect the SD card is go down the list, blacking out the names and making a duplicate that works, but then it's left loads of duplicates that don't? When I plug it in to the mac and delete all the files that are the ones that don't play, it then does the same thing again to the ones that worked fine when it wasn't working?

What the hell please someone help I can't find any info on it. Everyones just had a plug in and go experience and trust me to be difficult.

EDIT:

Right, I converted ALL my songs to mp3, plugged it in the car, and it's duplicated - at the top, all the unplayable songs, and the bottom all the playable songs. It's just duplicated them, but when I put it on the mac theres no duplicates at all?

Somebody please suggest something, it's getting on my nerves!

My iPhone won't work properly either, I can change songs on my iPhone but when it comes to changing it on the MMI it just doesn't :/

I hope you get it sorted, I'm not going to offer any suggestions as I wouldn't have a clue any way.

But the dog is in danger..............................

I'm still having SD card woe's... I think Mac is buggering it up as when I use an SD card with it, it says the date created for the card was 1980?! Rubbish.

It just duplicates the files, one half works and the other doesn't. The sound difference between SD and MMI plug is massive though, so I really want to use an SD card.

What i'm gunna do is buy a new SD card off amazon + a USB adapter as our old PC doesn't have an SD reader, and put all my music on it that way. What a mess around it will be to put new songs on it but thanks Apple -_-

After this Yosemite update for mac, everything seems to not work properly, and apple haven't seemed to care either.

When my S3 arrives in March I will check this Mac stuff out as my main laptop is a Mac. However as a .net developer I run windows under parallels. Though I must say I am not looking forward to these MMI music file issues, I can see many hours being wasted over this!

It's a Mac thing.
Use Windows if poss, format the SD card to FAT32 or exFAT or NTFS and start again.

You was right, I've just got myself a new microSD card which was for something else, but I noticed it was a 40mb/s which was way better, so I put it straight into a PC we have and copied all the music on, got in the car turned the MMI on and hey ho no duplicates, so yes it was a mac thing.

A side note: anyone know if a microSD with an adapter will be fine? The adapter doesn't slow the card down or anything? (I wouldn't imagine but you never know)

microSD will work, but is not recommended as its a two part object, vibrations in the car might cause it to seperate, then you've got 1 part lost somewhere.

Best to stick to a full size SD if possible. The owners manual does recommend a 1 piece SD card, and warns against using a microSD with adaptor, due to parts getting "stuck".

I'm currently using the microSD and a caddy, had it once when turned on car, no music played, checked media and selected SD only for it to say no SD loaded, so popped it out, and pushed it in again, all good again. So maybe I should either transfer all the songs onto the inbuilt HDD or get an SD card.

I'll see how i get on but so far so good!

I've had problems with duplicate tracks too. My card is 30mb/s. Is it possible that a quicker card will resolve this, say 45mb/s?
