Hi,

New to the forum and would appreciate any advice..
Had a 62 plate S3 Sportback for a few months. Only 19k on the clock. This week the clutch started slipping in high gears under load when it starts to boost.

Back with main dealer who have removed gearbox and have just contacted to me to say there is no excessive visual wear on cutch plates / DMF etc.

Eliminating wear, any thoughts on what else could cause the clutch to start slipping??
I want to keep a step ahead of the main dealer if poss... :)

Thanks
James

Contaminated clutch plate if the slave has leaked, faulty pressure plate perhaps. If there is no visual wear yet the clutch slips, the car is standard and the warranty is valid they should honor it. It is a wear and tear item but by their own admission its not doesn't appear to be worn out - therefore it must be faulty and should replace parts.

Good luck.

Many thanks for the help.
I didn't know if they had internal or external slave cylinders, but oil in the clutch surface would make sense.

Would it burn off in time after slave is fixed or should I push for a new clutch plate too??

You would need a new friction plate, had this on my Clio when gearbox oil made it's way onto the clutch. Whilst it's all off and it's under warranty I'd push for it to all be replaced!

Update from main dealer...

They have informed me that they have found an issue with the flywheel and have fitted a new one.
Not sure how the flywheel would have an issue with clutch slipping?

They are adament there were no fluid leaks and thus the existing clutch friction plate is not contaminated and going back in. They won't budge on fitting a new one.

Any thoughts on their diagnosis?

I get the car back tomorrow, so fingers crossed.

Sounds legit enough. DMF's can be faulty. Enquire about the warranty on these parts going forward and you should be ok,

I'd be tempted to try and get them to change the friction plate too as they've got it all apart and the only way to be absolutely sure the clutch is going to perform properly is if both parts are changed otherwise you might find yourself in a similar situation not to far in the future. As S3_Mat said check the warranty on the parts and what their position will be if it does start slipping again.

I know its under warranty but its 'not good practice' to fit a worn clutch to a new DMF, id ask them what there thoughts on it long term are

Well done mate, very good result. Another win for the consumer!

Great result, well done, did you have to push hard or were the open to reason? Which dealer was it?
