2005, A3 at the front leading edge of the sill, should the plastic arch liner sit infront or behind the arch flange ?

I'm fairly sure it should be behind the wheel arch lip, I have pulled mine over to sit on top of the lip where it meets the sill though to stop the paint from getting chipped (I gave up using touch up paint there, it was worn away in no time).

my offside is in front.... nearside was behind but like you say it chips easily and was starting to rust. it does look better behind
