Steering Rack Leak

Hi,
Well its finally happened, my steering rack has a slight leak on the near side rubber gaiter.
I went to see my Audi master tech man but Audi want £660.00 , so forget that one !!!
he said the part number was 8D2422053X this replaces 8D2422052.

I have been looking at parts listing for my car, but confused over if its has steering damper or not??
so any help please on part number and were to buy a reasonable price rack.

Any B5 rack should fit, but you'd need to swap the pressure pipe if it came from a non-1.8T model. Early cars with V6 engines had the damper AFAIK. I think they dropped the damper all together after facelift.

Hi, I was reading that the rack could be made by KOYO of ZF and there is no way to tell but looking under the car, I read on another forum that
there not interchangeable, do you no if that's true??
I have been looking at a couple of UK rack exchange companies, link below, what your thoughts,

Not interchangeable ??

Ive fitted a non damper rack to my TQS from a facelift TQS without damper !!

Not sure on part number its in a thread on here in one of mine or aragorn's post in the thread i made.

I think most RHD cars use the same type of rack.

Mine has blown a seal as well, is there any where in the north east of England that can remanufacture them quick and cheap but do a. Good job.

Look at the link I put in my post above, they do exchange racks, I am buying one next week, good price and 2 years warranty.

Hi Guys, My rack has just started leaking, just wondering (longshot) can it have the seals replaced in situ?
