Hi guys

Currently driving a 2006 A3 2.0TDI S-Line Quattro, but want to get a MK2 TTS 09 or 10 reg sometime in 2015. I ideally want one of the "rarer" colours in the hope of holding more value, I'd like to know what are the colours to look out for eg Solar Orange, Imola Yellow etc.

Also, what are the main things (issues) to look out for.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hullo, from what I know get a late 09- model (facelift version) this one will be clear from the brake squeel that mine suffers.

Main things to check that timing belt etc. are changed (audi recommend 4/5 years and charge 450 for it, indie will do it for 350ish.) there are also some models which have window regulator issues, not too sure on the cost to fix but I believe the window just does what it wants if its faulty.

Rare colours from what I have (or haven't) seen will be the Samoa Orange, Imola Yellow I have only ever saw 1 of, there is a blue colour possibly called Sprint Blue, you dont see many of them, Reds are also rare and there is a lovely bright green that you dont see very ofter along with Merlin Purple.

The popular colours were Black, White and Silver. Everything else is pretty rare to be honest as they were all cost extra at manufacture.

If you want to push the boat out a bit further you could look at the Amplified Black Edition models, they have some additional features over the standard black edition such as TTRS style fixed spoiler, 19" TTRS Rotor Alloys etc.

Anything else you wanna know, I'll try and help out

Dazz

Thanks Dazz that helps, I like the idea of the fixed rear spoiler, one less electrical item that could fail :)

Kinda ruled Red out already as my A3 is Brilliant Red so will want a change. Sprint Blue I think is a lovely colour same as the Orange (wife doesn't like it though) so that might be out :(

Would like to find one with split black/white leather, RNS-E and Auto Gearbox, my previous car an A4 1.8T was multi-tronic and I loved it, so I'd like to go back to it.

Only just bought my solar orange tts and can say I am quite happy with it early days though. The other colour I was looking at was volcano red even though I don't really do red cars have a look I think you will like and they seem to be rare.

Love the look of the Volcano Red, these are all the TT colours I've found so far, not bothered looking at White or Silver.
I know some of them aren't TTS's

I would stay away from the Phantom Black...its a ****** to keep it clean.

From colours I have saw in the flesh in those pictures I would recommend the Java Green, Volcano Red or Scuba Blue.

The Grey, Black and Sprint Blue are pretty common from what I have seen. I have only ever saw one picture of the Brown one online, there is a Samoa Orange colour which is kind of a mix between Solar Orange and Ipanema Brown which looks really nice

I had Palace Blue Pearl on my V6, exclusive colour and only ever saw one other like this.

My advice on a TT.... don't buy one, especially an early MK2. Riddled with faults, all of which I experienced in my 18 months of ownership. The problem with the faults is that even when new parts are fitted they are prone to fail due to inherent design flaws, such as:

Bose amp
Window regulators
Interior fan blower
Leaking door seals
Leaking windscreen seals
Rear light cluster wiring loom (caused by... yep you guessed it, water leaking)
Bonnet release handle snapping

If you do really want a MK2, get a warranty but beware, the warranty companies know all about the 80% electrical faults with the TT. I had a love hate relationship with mine as you may be able to tell. I think I loved the V6 roar more however.

Ouch that's a lot of problems, this will definitely take some consideration and looking into.
Nice colour though.

I have had my mine three and a half years one of the early MK2 2.0 TFSI December 2006 sauced it privatly with just 32,000 miles on the clock the only thing that has let go on mine was the battery a couple of weeks ago so there all not doom and gloom I am well pleased with mine just dont rush into any old car

From what I have seen, the 'rarer' colours don't actually attract a price premium used? Most people avoid those colours (orange, yellow, etc) for a reason, hence dealers are pushing their luck inflating prices on a car they might have trouble shifting. A samoa orange TT tdi sat in my local dealer for six months before they sold it, but not before they dropped the price. Personally, I love the TTS in solar, but would the missis let me buy one? Nope. Still trying to convince her the new RS3 I plan to order would look good in yellow... I know it'll be white or nardo grey that I end up with... oh, silver leather/black was what I had in my TTS, that was a mistake by the dealer, as I ordered all black seats. I had to live with it, but it got dirty very easily. Looked OK though, especially with a white car.

The only issues I had with my TTS BE were squeaky brakes - resolved by dealer changing pads under warranty, inconsistent ride (stupid mag ride to blame for that), occasionally the tracking crept out and comparatively high running costs. Otherwise, reliability was close to 100% over the 58k I did in mine from new. Yep, not a single fault or niggle really, brakes aside. Of course, no idea how one would fare that's more than 3 years old and/or a big mileage on the clock... would have thought second hand, well looked after (most are), full dealer service history, they're a sound buy, considering the quality of the product... one of the most reliable cars I have ever owned actually.

So I'm about to dip my toes into the TT world and looking around for a TTS. It'll be an 09 coupe onwards with upto 35k on the clock which sits nicely in my 20-22k budget. My question is whether the problems mentioned are widespread or very specific to the owner above and if they are widespread do they stop after a certain model year?

I don't really care much for colour because I'm hoping to get mine wrapped in a matt finish of the lovely sepang blue they do on the newer cars. Opinions welcomed.

Thanks :)

Edit: Oh and I'm wondering whether it's worth going for the Audi Navigation plus and how good the S tronic gearboxes are to live with. Don't have a preference if I'm honest. Also wanted to know what's the car like on a long long journey say....London to Bordeaux

Thanks for the offer, but I'm only on the starting rung so to speak of trying to get one. Still need to see whether it's worth keeping a car like this in my current circumstances (not financial) and also what am I getting into rather than owning a great fun car (nothing as a free lunch in my world). It'll also be on finance and not cash price so I need to be 100% sure that I'll be happy with it in 5 years time after getting hold of one.
