Just bought a 2000 reg s3 apy engine with 126000 miles on the clock (my first Audi). Oil pressure warning light came on so I've changed the oil pump, dropped the sump, checked the oil pick up pipe and turbo oil return, both clean. I then changed the oil pressure sensor ( the old one did look ****** ) and I've checked the breather pipes for blockages. The warning light comes on straight away when I give it a little rev at workin temperature. Is there anything I have missed? Do I need to reset the ecu after fitting the new oil sensor? I didn't want to start another oil pressure thread but this has me stumped. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, hopefully I can sort it. ****** thing is breaking my heart. Only driven it 100miles

I know how you feel , have you tired testing your oil pressure just to see how bad it is ?

A proper measure of oil pressure with a separate gauge is needed to continue diagnosis.

The result will lead to one of 2 paths; mechanical fault with the oil system (sticking pressure relief valve etc) or an electrical fault (wiring between oil pressure sender and cluster/faulty cluster etc)

Haven't tested it no, don't have access to a gauge. But I had the oil pump fitted by a mechanic mate of mine and it all checked out after, got 100 miles out of it before the light went off. I'm gonna check for fault codes tomorrow and if that doesn't help I'll try find a gauge to test it properly.

Checked the car for fault codes and nothing related came up. Think I'm gonna give in and send it to a local garage! I don't want to but I don't have the time now with goin back to work. I'll post what the problem was when I get the car back. Thanks again lads

where did you get the new sensor from ?

hi mate! had the same problem as you a few months back! if i was you i would check the pressure relief valve on the oil cooler they can be bad for getting blocked and sticking, i took the oil cooler off and gave it a good inspection and clean out it should be pretty noticeable once the cooler is off if that is what your problem is.

good luck bud

ps i would have a go at it yourself mate its not hard, if your stuck there is plenty of good people on here willing to help out

It's not an OEM sensor, would that make a difference?

I would give it a go myself no problem but I have to spend the day with the girlfriend today then I'm back to work tomorrow. At this point I just want to drive it so it'll be goin to the garage during the week to get sorted. I will be asking the mechanic to check the pressure relief valve first though thanks

Fair enough!
fingers crossed it works out ok for you :)

yes it can do some non OEM just don't work always use OEM for sensors

Anyone got an engine for sale haha. It's ******!! Worn main bearing and cams. ****** gutted!!

I feel for you man , not even done many miles ! hope it doesn't put you off your s3 !

Hasn't put me off. Obviously the previous owner didn't care enough to take care of it properly. Gonna price a rebuild and then decide what to do from there

sorry to hear that mate! not a good start to the year :(

So took the car to george daltons in portlaoise last week http://m.daltons.ie/workshop-&-diagnostics.php. They have a good reputation and are local to me, they took a look at the car and reckon it's just a bad oil pump! I put a non OEM one in cause it's all I could get at the time (between Xmas and New Years). They're gonna fit an audi one and check the bearing shells for wear early in the week, so hopefully I'll have it back on the road by the weekend!
Moral of the story: always get a second opinion.
Thanks for all your comments and I'll update you when I know more
