My A3 2.0 Diesel went in for a service at the middle of 2014 on around 19k miles. Its now on around 27k and saying it needs servicing again. Its a company car and the leasing company send it to an outfit called SN Autohaus in Ilford, Essex. I have requested another service but the job sheet suggests the service indicator just needs to be set to Long Life Schedule. I'm taking it in on 12th Jan and wondered if anyone else has seen this before and if indeed its correct.

As I understand it, if you cover a significant annual mileage (which appears to be the case with you) the car needs servicing less frequently than if you cover only a low annual mileage. It is most probably to do with the damage done to the engine oil by short journeys and stop/start motoring.
If I am not wrong you have done 8k miles from last service which is a standard interval. As far I know not everybody can set long life service in computer and SN Autohaus probably can not and that's why is asking for service again.
I think wideboybloke may have it right, I have a VX diesel and soon after it's first service I noticed the remaining oil life had dropped rather a lot for the miles I had done! I contacted VX and they said it's to do with how you drive such as short journeys/stop-start etc. It worked out that the oil would need changing 3300 miles after the first service! It's ridiculous and one of the reasons I'm getting a petrol.
That's what is so strange. It went about 19k without an oil change (or even a top up - still have unopened bottle of oil in boot). Then to only go 8k seems odd. I haven't been driving any different. Are you guys saying that Audi can set the service countdown to a 'long life' option? I thought the car just worked it out itself? I will have a word with this garage when I drop it off next week. It always concerns me when they dont use the dealers for servicing. I always insisted on it with Vauxhall. I assume these garages cant install any firmware updates etc?
They weren't able to reset the service interval to long-life. Perhaps they don't have the kit, in which case it makes you wonder if they ought to be servicing them? However as it's a lease car it's not the same as if you owned it.
