This is my 2001 audi S3 that I converted to diesel, I put a 2009 CR170 engine in it this summer, it has dpf and egr delete and is remapped to approximately 200bhp, I converted it because I wanted a cheap to run daily as I own a few other thirsty petrol cars.

I've fitted Brembo 18z's with R32 334x32 discs, Bilstien PSS9's R32 anti-roll bars, full scorpion stainless exhaust, pre-facelift S8 avus alloys on H&R adapters. I've done a few interior mods lately, I fitted an 8P flat bottom wheel and gearknob and some 8P Recaro wingbacks along with a mk4 golf Recaro back seat, I upgraded to a double-din console with symphony stereo this weekend in preparation for an rns-e or maybe even a nexus 7 but I need to research that option a bit more.

LOVE THE BADGE!!!!!!!
HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!

love the stealthy brakes fella!!
mine are bright red kinda gives the game away a bit
whats the gtd engine go like??

Them Bucket Seats Go Straight In Or Do You Play About With The Rails ?

STD FTW :):):):):):):) I am sure they must know what an STD is in Ireland.

I can see some of the logic behind the badging but I don't think Audi will ever release a car called the STD.

Its still 4wd yes, I used the original s3 o2m box with pd130 gears and arp diff bolts, I was able to use the GTD o2q clutch and flywheel with a 5mm spacer between engine and box

So sti on a subaru is ok but std is wrong? there are so many S4 and rs4 badged tdi's around my neck of the woods I couldnt leave it S3 !

Its a great engine in an S3, it doesnt feel like a diesel car apart from being a little noisier on tickover, the cr engine is much better than the old pd engine

STD = Sexually Transmitted Disease did you know that ??.
I applaud you totally for making the conversion, a great job just let down by one small issue.

Sorry Bud, but that is just wrong to do that to an S3, you could have just Baught a tdi Quattro and left the S3 to someone who wants the real thing IMO.

The rails were easy to modify, I removed the 8L seats and then removed the subframes from them and bolted the subframes back in to the car and then made some adapter brackets to bolt the 8P rails on top, I always found the 8L seats too high but now the buckets are the perfect height for me

Like an S3 is the holy grail of audi's or something!! It's my car and I'll do what I want to it, different strokes for different folks and all of that.......

Agreed, at the end of the day, an S3 is just another hot hatch.

I think its epic.
well done on the conversion. What's the deal with the electronics/loom? How does it all work?

Thanks, Im using the CR170 loom and ecu, I cut and spliced the AMK and CBBB looms to make a plug and play conversion loom, the abs/esp haldex all still works as it should, luckily the can messages must be the same. I had to fit the CR170 floor mounted throttle pedal as the 1.8T one or a pd150 one would not work for me.

im with superkarl on this
a tdi a3 wouldnt come with the bodykit that an s3 does and im sure there will be other differences
not important to all but its his car
great work i say!

Brilliant job, nicely done on the interior as well, with the torque on TD engines i cant imagine it would be far off stock s3 performance but without being quite so thirsty. I wish i had the skill/knowledge to carry out something like this!

:applaus:

I love this conversion! Doubt it would be much slower than a stock S3 with 200bhp and a load more torques!! I would have left the S3 badge personally, it's still an S3, no matter what's under the bonnet.

You wouldn't put a TDCI ford engine in an Escort Cosworth, same thing IMO.

its only fairly recent diesels have been getting sporty kits and engines
there was never an option for this scenario.
also he has fitted a diesel set up that will be much more efficient and very likely faster than a 210 s3
please where is the down side?
if he went from 210 to 115bhp in your example id agree
but he hasnt

Don't get me wrong, amazing convertion, very impressive, clever and all that, each to there own I suppose, just seem a shame that it in the long run, it's the end for another genuine S3, but then again, there are plenty of other S3's that have had far worse things done to them.

great conversion its genius the pd vag engine cannot be compared to the cr vag engine i bet it drives really well.
the engine looks right at home in the bay as well. Great job and nice one for breaking the norm and doing what suits your needs . ;)

How is it the end for this S3? It could be swapped back if I ever choose to do so, for now I will use it as my daily.

No way is an S3 in the same league as an Escort Cosworth and I dont even like fords!

Do you want to see what I did to a B5 Rs4?

what did you do to the rs4 lol
we all have diferwnt tastes hey
no one is right or wrong here :)

Probably put a London taxi engine in it, lol.

Loving the interior upgrades for sure and fair play for doing something out of the norm and still maintaing a stealth OEM look

Ok so in my defence the green one was already damaged in the front let corner, It had 95,000 miles and was the least desirable colour they came in

It's a long term prolect, the pictures are 2 years old and I haven't done much with it since apart from some welding to the roof and quarters and some alignment of the front end on a jig, I have been buying parts and have new wings and front bumper also some genuine bbs lm's and recaro pole positions

Ahhh yes I know the cars now, tasty work : ) did you buy that s3 about 3 years ago ?

Jeez talk about "cut and shut" , I don't think I would actually want to be in that car .
