Afternoon folks,

Just a quick question regarding my A3. First of all it's a 170 Quattro and is currently on 16 inch steel wheels for winter.

The problem that has come up is the car feels pretty unstable, noticed at speeds anywhere between about 40 to 70 (haven't been faster than that really). It's hard to describe how it feels, but it feels like there is some movement side to side as I drive along the road, yet the steering wheel stays still, but the movement seems to be more at the back end.

I have had the alignment done which is now spot on but the movement is still there. Next step is wheel balance but I'm not feeling anything through the steering wheel or through the seat so I'm inclined to think the balance is ok.

Has anyone experienced anything similar?

Thanks

Justin

Maybe you got used to 17s or 18s? The 16s have higher sidewall, making the car feel more "soft" when turning.

I personally roll on 224/45/17 during the winter as I find the 16s too squishy in the corners due to tyres getting slight deformations at the sidewall area.

Thanks for the replies guys.

The tyres are Vredestein wintracs. I should of said that this is the second year I have had them on and I didn't have the same problem last year.
