Had my 2002 Allroad for a few months now, and I love it. Over the last few weeks it has gone through periods where it has some electrical gremlins going on. It will flash the interior courtesy lights (front and back) repeatedly, and you can hear the door lock motors moving at the same time. Sometimes the doors lock themselves randomly. Last night when I locked it the alarm didn't come on and all the windows started creeping down an inch at a time until they were fully open. Same thing happened earlier in the day, and once about two weeks ago. Lucky it wasn't raining! No warning lights at all, although once the boot open warning symbol came on (the boot was fully closed). Thought it might have something to do with the boot switch, haven't managed to locate it yet though.

Any thoughts gratefully appreciated before my kids start refusing to go in the haunted car!

Almost certainly the Convenience module under the passenger footwell. Check for corrosion. Damp under the seat?

Thanks Typhoon I'll have a look for that. I have a VAGCOM code reader (currently on loan to a friend) do you know if the convenience module would show any errors? If so I'll try and get it back off him.

Should show something on a scan. Even if I am totally wrong and it's just a loose connector. There's a post on here somewhere about drying out the module.

Thanks for the info, have located the offending module (disappointingly it was bone dry in the box) & ordered a replacement from that eBay. Stupidly wasn't paying attention and appear to have ordered one from somewhere foreign, I guess as long as the part number match up it should be fine. When it finally arrives.

Was looking at VCDS, don't really want to spring for the full amount, but it seems there is the opportunity to register the Lite version for $99. Am I right in thinking that this basically gives you the full version but will only work with older (pre 2005 I think it said) cars? If so then it seems like a decent deal.

Yup $99 and you get support as well.....lived with it for some time until a 2009 (Can Bus) arrived in the family.
Good luck with the module....mine was flooded by the front scuttle issue. Eventually removed the rubber bung.
