Hi guys,

Looking to buy an Audi A3 Sportback TDI S Tronic for my partner for around £7,000.

Is there anything you guys would suggest to look out for when looking at one?

I did test drive one and that wasn't bad, quite impressed by the gearbox actually.

The two in question I'm thinking of going to see are these...

Also can someone tell me when the cambelt should be changed? Someone said 130,000 miles! but thought that was a bit long?!

Sorry..I'm usually into my BM's so don't know too much anymore when it comes to VAGs!

solid car to be honest, much better than a BM lol :p

Please please please make sure the DSG box has had its oil and filter change every 40,000 miles. Drive it make sure there are no clunks or noises and all changes are smooth. Plant your foot and make sure it's kicks down nicely too. A couple second delay between you jamming your foot and all hell breaking loose is normal

Some cars are recommended for cambelt at 130k some at 80 some at 60. In my humble opinion it's a piece of rubber. No reason not to change it anytime 60-80,000 miles... No need at all to wait until 130k miles

Plz search the forum, the topic has been covered in detail before

Is there much difference between the 140bhp and 170bhp in terms of reliability?

I think the 170' are more reliable, im not massivly knowledgable but im sure people with the 140's have a turbo problem and im sure iv seen it mentioned. Something to check up on.

I have had a few audis now and I prefer the 170bhp one only problem I have ever come across is the dreaded dpf becoming blocked but once removed no problems

Dpf can become blocked on any car. With 7k budget he will be going for PD engine which doesn't have DPF anyway

The 170 is more than a 140 and a different map believe me. I have a 170 and the power delivery is so linear compared to 140

Also the 140 turbo seems to be made of cheese and pickle, 170 turbo is more reliable

I think the 170 had injector recall so watch that but my understanding is the majority of cars had the work done

170PD has a DPF doesn't it? That is why I avoided it...

Believe they do.The CR140's have a DPF too.
Think the rule of thumb was, if the tailpipes face downwards they don't have a dpf.
