Hello ,

Well I have had the best xmas ever with this car ! ....eml light came back on after a lot of messing , then all hell broke loose the other day ...the car would not unlock , nor would the boot ? ...so manually used the key to open door ..boot still wouldnt unlock ...ok so put the shopping and mrs and kiddy in the car ?!...set off about 100 metres and alarm lights start flashing ( siren is bust got a spare!?) ....so recovery guy manages to get it to reset and off I go , all the time driving fine me thinks ......

gets home ....and interior lights not working , car not locking , glovebox lock going stoopid etc etc .....so feels carpet on passenger side to feel a LOT of water ( bearing in mind theres like 4 inches below !) ....so speaks to a mate ....get in there asap he says ! .....then come down with man flu!!....then xmas day , and family ......

SO anyhow managed to get the trims off the sides to get my hands in there to feel a lot of deep water from front to back under the passenger side !?......use the vax to take litterally 10 litres out !?.......leave trims off and put towels under all the carpet to take up the rest for time being .....

meantime back again more water ( as its now rained again and snowed !?) ...vaxed again took a little out towels did there job ............then started more trims ,and took the pass seat out

Got to the CCM under the front carpet to see some very wet looking wiring and ccm ! !!!

got the ccm out and took in house ...took out of box which was wet , then unclipped all the tabs to find a very mouldy and damp ccm board/unit !?.....

NOW ---- MY Question , as cleaned it up best i could today with time I had ...some things come back most not so im guessing its dead ! ...( ps Ive changed the pollen filter housing for new oem as this was same on mrs passat ) car is a 2003 BFB Quattro 20vt - leather , heated seats , electrics etc , same as others except seats are heated .

I have a PART NO - AUDI COMFORT CONTROL MODULE 8H0959433D 8H0 959 433 D CABRIO OF THIS OFF my unit - but can not for the love of god find them anywhere ? -- I need to know if I can use one with a different letter on it ? - or its going to be beans on toast for my family for the next three months !????!

ALSO - where do these things leak for that much water to have got into the car !??? ANYONE HELP

any help/advice /tips would be great im fast running out of money on this car , but want like the car and want it to be right !

cheers

It's the drain grommets under the battery & servo (lots on here about this). When the water gets to a certain level it floods in through the heater. Not had this on mine so no expert, but others have!

As john777w says there are two drain plugs under the slam panel behind battery they usually get blocked with leaves and such...Try poking them out with a stiff rod ie coat hanger wire..hope this helps:)

howdy guys , sorry didnt fully explain what id done prev all ......

I changed the battery on this car a few months ago , and whilst doing so saw that the holes were gunked so cleaned and popped them out then , ive had a fair few passats ( which is similar chasis ) so had all this issue with them , but the no roof thingy brings a whole new game ...

so yeah the two grommets were done months ago so have been dry for a long while ......hence why i changed the pollen filter surround ...this did have a lot of crud around it but didnt seem in bad condition at all compared to the wifes passat with similar leak ....but done anyhow to rule one more problem out

So any other pointers or places to look please - roof drains/doors/seals? .....what are the ecu boxes and bonnet pull grommets like on these cars do these leak like the passat too , or would this be the other end of the car ie - driverside?

After searching around a lot of ebay/google/vag forums and here , next stop is the rear drain holes from the boot area/hood area as this also seems quite common so when the weather allows !

Check the seal under the main ECU under the bonnet, rear left as you look in. I had 2 inches of water under my carpets last year til I fixed it. I think I posted pics and vid on here !

Is there a replacement seal for this ? or a new fix kit ? looks quite a big box compared to the passat , but a little easier to get to?.....

Ive had the boot trim off today and that was wet through so its been coming in there too ....ive took the three gromets out and will go back and seal the brake light up as ive seen people do .....next job is the check drain holes in a pillars and then ones in/around the roof box area once my new CCM arrives !?

Under the ECU there is a raised lip that the seal sits on and then the ECU housing sits on that. I reused the seal on mine but I bedded it on a thin layer of clear silicone just to keep it in place. It's directly above the fusebox so not somewhere you want water.

As has already been pointed out the plenum grommets are the biggest cause of water inside. My last B6 saloon ended up with a stuck brake master cylinder because of it, Audi paid 50% of the bill though which was fair enough.

And if your boot is wet, do you get water coming out of the boot lid when you open it ? If do its probably the seal around the brake light in the boot lid, the gloop goes hard over time and water gets in. I clear silicones mine on the inside.

Yes cheers , ive done the grommets in the scuttle panel area long time ago popped them out .....

I will have a look near the ecu area see what its like , cant say im sure if ive seen/felt any damp on the driverside but you never know ive seen myself now how thick this carpet/sponge etc is below ! .....

Im not too sure re the drain holes in roof area ive read it on here and am compiling a word document so i can go through each thing that people have tried to fix !...just want it dry again then i can start to enjoy it once more ! ....

Yes when i took the trim off the boot lid today , all the inside of the boot lid was really wet/damp and condensated a lot ! ....and yes it does run out of the trim ....also runs down the boot where the wiring is the left handside ! .....near the brake light looks all mouldy but didnt have any silicone to hand today so will go and buy some tomoz as it only looks like a few small allen key bolts to remove but yeah looks like one of the problems .....

my fun continues ! ......

Defo worth resealing the boot lid brake light, go easy on the silicone you don't want it coming through from the inside to the outside cos it's messy to clean. Not had a drop inside my boot since I did mine.

Yeah looked very damp and wet around that area and the back of the white plastic seal where the allen bolts are was mouldy ! ....got me some silicone today but alas the light went and the temps dropped a lot so will try and do tomoz ....in the mean time read that someone else had popped out the three grommets so done that too .

Wouldnt of thought that much water could get in through the brake light !?....surprising

cheers

ant have you checked the door seals really easy to check open your door poor water on the window (out side) then look under the door and see if the water comes out the holes in bottom of doors or from behind the door card

Well ....bought a new ccm CAR IS WORKING AGAIN ! so im happy ....we have left the ccm out of the way until we are sure where the leak was/is ....with the hood up the channels and inside all there looks ok .....

Today had a load of rain ! ....and had a cloth down the side of the sill where it meets the door , came to it this evening and it was wet through and can see run lines down into where the ccm usually is ! ....so i think its either the seal around the door , or the seal behind the door card that seems to be the issue ...

Sealing the brake light with silicone also seems to have sorted the boot lid ! so getting there now !
