Day 1 with my beautiful shiney new phone and my mom knocks it on the floor causing damage to the side and camera. ****** off would be a heavy understatement but I'm just looking for the best way to go about resolving this and getting a new phone.

Think I've solved this, it's only aesthetic damage but damage is damage and I'm still really sore about the whole situation. My mom's agreed to buy me a brand new one so my loss can be someone else's gain as I'm selling a 1 day old lightly damaged phone (giving her money raised as I'm not cold hearted enough to take all this cash from my mom)

Just as a bit of extra publicity it's a Nexus 6 32GB and I've put an ad on this site amongst others http://www.audi-sport.net/xf/threads/nexus-6-unlocked-sim-free-32gb-midnight-blue.232981/

That's not the point, wouldn't mind if I caused the damage but going out (without the phone ensuring no harm comes of it) and coming back to find it's been dropped and damaged is not on.

I would never ask my mum to buy me a new phone, even if she ran over it 2 minutes after I purchased it! Lol

I didn't ask, she offered. Put in her position I'd take responsibility and do the same.

I agree with Jojo. Dont you have phone insurance to cover accidental damage, etc?

My insurance is a case and not dropping it. Irony is the case arrived this morning.

Even if she offered I still wouldn't have took the money! Seems a bit low in my opinion. I mean was she messing with the phone or knocked it on the floor from where it had been left? And it seems pretty pointless getting a new phone if it's just going to be left at home to save it from getting damaged, each to their own though I suppose.

She's not being extorted she's receiving the cash from the one she dropped. Left on my desk out the way then knocked to the floor. Hadn't yet got a sim card so no reason for it to leave the house.

I'm not saying she's being extorted, and I understand you'll be giving her the money from the one you sell, I'm just saying if it was my mom I wouldn't do it. And you didn't mention the lack of sim card, you said it had been left at home to ensure no damage came of it.

If my mum charged me for all the stuff I broke when I lived at home I'd be about £10k in debt.

My mum would have given me a bollocking for leaving it lying around.

Fair play to her for buying another one though, I just wouldn't have the heart to take the money off her.

All the money she has probably spent on you over the years and you've seemingly got your knickers in a twist over a phone! if it was anyone else I could understand but your parents? If my mom pranged my car I still wouldn't take the money.

This. I appreciate your mum has made the offer, but if that were me, I could never accept the money. Stuff happens, live with it.
