Hello all!

Just a quick one really. I haven't seen a lot about diesel so just wanted to know of a PD150 turbo will fit straight onto a PD150 engine without any modifications. I have been told it would bit want to clarify by someone who has done it!

Regards

Not 100% on this mate but I think garret do a bolt on kit at the manifold , go to http://www.darksidedevelopments.co.uk they do mods for most things diesel .
You'll have to get your motor remapped. I'm not sure how you'll get an oil feed to the turbo so you might wanna look at that . Also youll reduce the life of your engine a little bit for example MAYBE do some damage to the piston heads over time this equals no compression and possibly big bangs . it'll be a big job in terms of cash monies
Sorry if I'm being a little negative lol

Cheers.

Ill spend the money where i need to. I have seen the darksidedevelopments stuff but its 1.5k where if the pd150 turbo will bolt straight on with hybrid conversion, remap, intercooler, clutch and induction will be good for 180bhp from what i have seen.

Anybody done it?

Might struggle to get an answer here to be honest mate... not many TDi 8L owners here... most have 1.8t's...

Can't say if its a bolt on swap but I suspect the injectors will need changing (no idea it they will fuel enough to support a PD150 turbo) and you WILL need it mapped as you can't jjst bolt a bigger turbo on and expect it to work..

Derv's are also a different beast to petrol engines... they make more power from more fuel but will generate higher EGT's unless supported by extra air to balance it out...

Might be worth having a look on some of the VW forums as there are more Mk4 Golfs with TDi engines in than A3's and they are the same mechanicals

pd 15o would make no difference to a 170 tdi .... Just get a quicker car I'm sorry to be blunt its Xmas eve /.......how ever you would save more money getting a 2.0 tdi quattro 170 then. Re mapping it to 220

I understand it will need remapping i didn't expect it to work straight out the question was wether the turbo was indeed a bolt straight to the original manifold. As i understand it you can use the slightly bigger turbo without injectors for around 180, if you go for injectors you can see over 200.

The 1.9tdi is 130 btw not 170..

Looks like ill have to head over to the tdi clubs..

Cheers for replies.

It wouldn't bolt on with out drilling and the original manifold probably wouldn't take the extra air and excess scavenge from the turbo best just getting the kit, or the respected manifold and turbo then making it work

I have a friend that has just tuned his GTTDI PD130, 2.5" boost pipes, FMIC, EGR delete, full stainless c/w DPF delete and a high flow panel filter. Standard mani, injectors & internals.

He sent his PD130 turbo off to P/X for hybrid PD130 turbo to a place called GP tuning - near pontefract iirc, the px'd hybrid turbo cost roughly £500.

Straight swap on the mani as its the same shell, had it custom mapped at CC tuning in burton and made 230HP 300ftlbs @1.8 bar, this was tuned down to these figures for more traction (FWD mk4 golf) and reliability.

Having been in the car and seen the dyno chart - linear for both HP and ft/lbs like a petrol car, Its frighteningly fast, has hardly any lag and pulls to the redline with no fall off of Tq or Hp.

Everyone RAVES about dark side - yeah they're good but they need to be for the price of their turbo kits, ill admit id was keen to go visit them and fork out some cash for their kit but after seeing firsthand what can be built at a fraction of the cost i think I've been swayed to have a good look into going down this route!

Re; 1.9 tdi / 2.0tdi - yeah the 2.0 is 170 and the 1.9 is 150 …But you've not got the worry of the injector issues on the PD lump and they seem to be pretty bombproof IMO whereas the 2.0 is not so much IMO / mechanic friends opinions.

If you have a PD130 with an engine code such as ASZ then a remap on the standard engine will give you something like 175bhp.
The injectors they use are the same as the PD150 so good for around 230bhp fuelling wise.
A PD150 turbo and a decent FMIC will get you somewhere around 190bhp.
By now you will probably be needing a new uprated clutch.
As stated above a hybrid turbo with the standard injectors and some other mods will make the most of the the standard engine parts and give you close to 230bhp and make for a quick , cheap to run car.
As above there are a lot of people that seem to rave about Darkside, there are many more capable diesel tuners out there that can do as good or better jobs.
