has anyone changed the tensioner of the aux belt on an AVF engine.

Mine has the late, spring wound tensioner that unlike the earlier shock a sober type.

Main question is how I lock the tensioner so I can remove it , as can't seem to find a hole to put a locking pin in when tension is taken off the belt......or should I just release it completely and unbolt from the rear.

Dead easy just wind a bolt in to take tension of belt remove belt think there's 3 bolts to undo

Its dead easy. Put long spanner on bolt on the tensioner and release tension. Remove belt. The feel down the back of the tensioner under the alternator and you will find a bolt that holds it in place. Take bolt out and then remove tensioner and swap for new one.

Cheers.

Can I just release the tensioner once the belt is off while the spanner is still on the bolt.....or do I need to lock it with a pin?

I changed mine last week along with timing belt. Hold tensioner down take your aux belt of then let go of the tensioner remove the bolt out the back and it will come of no need to lock it off but if you have a new one there should be a pin locking it off

Thanks.

Changed the alternator pulley now. Just need to do the tensioner Monday when ECP open as it bounces a little still and makes a noise, but a lot better since the pulley was changed.

Not looked to be honest as it is dark, but is it a bolt or nut that holds the damper from behind

Well finally managed it this morning at -3 degrees......need a heated garage.

I had to lock the tensioner off in the end to get it out as did not remove the bumper, otherwise it went well and the old tensioner was weak in comparison to the new......the old alternator pulley must have worn it out.

They appear to have revised the AVF tensioner as the spring in encased now in a metal cup compared to my 2004 original version which is not.

The belt is steady now and not slightly jumping like it was before....I am hoping the noise will be gone too, as not had a chance to test drive yet.
