Hi,
I really need some help from you guys to help me prove Audi wrong :audibash:.

Now this help will involve ten minutes of your time so hoping the Christmas spirit will spur you on :).

I've recently purchased new fog lights for my (2006) b7 Avant s line. The screws holding the old fog lights are corroded to hell so I (tried) to buy some new screws from Audi dealers.

Both sets (tried buying from two different dealers) are incorrect the screws are totally different to the ones on the car at the moment. They won't even fit through the holes on either old or new fog lights let alone screw into holes on bumper, so must be incorrect screws.

Audi say they have done a stock check to ensure bins are not messed up at their warehouse and also Audi technical have been contacted who simply said screws supplied are correct you must have changed the original ones at some time in the past.

Pictures of screws below ( new on left, old on right )

Now, If anyone could spare the time to remove one screw from your fog lights and post a picture on here along with year and model of your car I would really appreciate it, pretty please.

in was just about to nip out and check this out for you, but, its now issing down ,if it stops before darkness falls i'll check them out.

I had my fog lights off last week and can confirm my car had the same screw your car has the old one.

when I replaced my corroded fog light screws I just bought a set of generic screws from B&Q and they done the job for, son don't bother with audi. Take the old one you had in, measure it in width length and just buy something as close as possible to it from Homebase, B&Q or any other similar store.
my original ones looked like the black one tho, if that helps...

Yeah I could but this is a matter of principal I just don't like the "you have changed the screws" from audi.

Cheers rob, would love to prove them wrong :audibash:

nope still chucking it down mate and dark, i'll have a look tomorow now, i expect you'll prob get a deffo answer before anyway from others.

Well I looked on ETKA and the part number shown for the screw is 058133579A
Which looks suspiciously like what you have. The part description says Hexagon socket head panel bolt .
The screw you have seems to have a smaller thread diameter so the one they have supplied will probably split the plastic assuming it will work at all.

Looking on Partsbase
http://www.partsbase.org/audi/audi-...-lamp-turn-signal-indicator/#p-aud-058133479a

There is an alternative part number shown 8H0807199A
Seems there are 2 makes of fog lamps Valeo and AL and different screws to secure them.
The screws they have given you are for a Valeo fog light.

And that looks more like what you have

I would order some of the 8H0807199A part number, I wouldn't go with the Ebay auction above £32 shipping is a tad steep as is the £4 price for just one screw. :)

Thanks Karl, yes after speaking with the parts guy at Birmingham audi I saw the two types of fog lights AL having plastic lens with 2 screws and valeo having glass lens with 3 screws. They said I needed 058 133 479 A which is what I have pictured above as new screws

Bumper screws would sort it. **** Audi

Yeah but as I said I have a point to prove, not to audi dealers but to audi UK the dealer spare parts man was helpful but could only offer what the system told him. Just want audi UK to eat humble pie...

Too much time on your hands mate and money to burn if you're buying screws from Audi!!

Mine were the same as your old ones but I saw no point in putting back something that will just corrode exactly the same as the originals, I put stainless self tappers back in mine.

Just out of interest how much were Audi charging for them?

About 30p each, cheaper than b & q any day

Sure you do but at the end of the day, the screws will fit with abit of persuasion. I could understand your point with a major engine part, but this just seems way too minor to even want to start the argument. They're not gonna care really are they? It's just too minor. Good luck by all means but it just isn't worth the effort.

as I say just the attitude of audi UK tech guys saying we are right you are wrong gets me wound up. Like I say the spares guy at dealers couldn't be more helpful but can only go so far for a few penny's worth of screws.

After all, audi insist we use the correct screws to avoid contact corrosion as written in their corrosion warranty t&c's ;)

Also I would not bother with the trips to dealer if they weren't less than two minutes away from my place of work.

Anyway I was planning on giving this thread link onto audi to see I wasn't going mad. Does anyone on here object to me doing so? Absolutely no worries of you prefer me not to do so.

Mine are the same as what you had and mine are looking worse for ware... I will get around to changing them

i dont think they would take any notice mate, the problem is due to a lack of human interfacing these days, if the computer says it correct then it must be, which , is the whole problem.

when i have asked about specific audi parts the guys cant help unless i have the p/n and they dont have the ability to check for parts manually.

sadly its 21st century life now .......

fire away, there seems to be an issue with the parts system. They should have asked you whether you had Valeo or AL fogs.

The issue with the parts system has always been the same. It's nothing to do with Audi.... Just a bunch of ******* that don't know what they're doing. I've worked in vag bodyshops for the last 15 years and the problem has always been the same. Nobody knows what they are ******* doing. I've taken this to the highest level over the years and ended up being the bad guy, so I think your fighting a loosing battle. But I really do wish you the best of luck.

Yes Karl they did ask that, that's why I know about the 2 x choices of fogs AL or Valeo.
I think your part numbers and links will prove very useful :)

thanks Craig, if I do pass this link on to audi dealer I won't be dropping you in it will I ?

Audi just like the rest wont give two hoots, once they have made there money selling the motor from new that's it. And lets be honest Audi really wont care about screws when they wont admit the B7 a4s petrol and diesel are shonky cack LOL

They also won't admit that the tfsi's fail for fun. It's just a loose loose situation.

"Shonky cack" lol will have remember that phrase :laugh::laugh:

Right problem solved (thanks Karl) part number was indeed 8H0807199A. Picked up six today and after some complaining and whining about my time and money already wasted getting new screws I paid nothing for them.

That being said they are a phenomenal rip-off, I mean Audi have really outdone themselves on pricing these screws.... If I had to pay they would have been £17 for six of them :wtf::undwech::asskicking::applaus:

Mind you that's about the going price for six screws from b&q or homebase :tapedshut:

Can'[t believe you over all this fuss over a couple of screws. Why didn't you just buy some from a fastener supplier, could have bought some stainless or other rustless screws for pennies.

Screws from screwfix are fine for a kit car....;)

Fine for any car Pal:o.k:. Audi don't use any special sort of screws, they are sourced from any fastener company at the right price. If they were special they would not have rusted like yours.

I’ve just renewed the fog light screws on my S-line A3, I removed the surround trim a few days ago and found all the screws to be incredibly rusty and corroded, with 4 out of the 6 having rusted beyond being able to use a Torx bit on it.
A quote from Audi returned a £19 quote for the 6 screws which quite frankly is obscene!
The stock 8H0807199A is a 5 x 21 mm self-tapper so I simply purchased online some stainless self-tappers with an integral washer .
The size I used was size 10 (actually 4.8mm) in a few lengths; I couldn’t obtain 21mm length ones so bought a few 18mm and 25mm (3/4 and 1”) to see which ones would work best.
In the end, both lengths fitted perfectly and I can relax knowing that should I ever need to change a fog light bulb it will be plain sailing!
An added bonus was that delivered , all the screws came to just under £3.50.

After all that fuss it would have been quicker to get the old ones sand blasted and repainted :tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy::laughing:

I have two A4 convertibles one 2007 and one 2009 but have the same screws as yours, definitely not the ones Audi are suggesting.
