Prawn and BigAls A3 Track Car

****** great, after all the effort, and it's still only at slab level. It has cost as much as the average total garage cost just to get to this stage. BUT it will be worth it. PRAWNS PALACE. !!!

We were more thinking of a bed for Dad to keep him outside when he comes to stay

I'm sure mum wouldn't mind

Thanks Bill.

I can't wait to build a garage on it in the new year!

Hopefully it'll have everything I'll ever need. Full compliment of air tools, full underbody access. A massive amount of shelves. Lifting beams and a hoist, a 32" wall mounted screen for 'garage PC' with wifi. A sink with hot and cold running water

And most importantly, a beer fridge!

did you go for underfloor heating in the end? you could easily rig up the concrete reinforcement mesh to a mains supply for an easy retro-fit solution if required :p

Looking really good,
I know you will already have thought of it, but there are some people that are attracted to nice shiny big garages who like to visit in the night. Security would be something on my list of things to do. My dad built a garage/ workshop in the garden about twice the size of what you have and it was visited twice in the night. The first time they got in through the rear door, the second time they tried to get in through the roof. Fortunately my dad is into vintage vechicles so most of the tools are fairly ancient lots of BSF , Whitworth spanners sockets etc.
We ended up fitting a proper alarm system to the workshop. It's not as if it's a high crime area, it's not.
Before and after I think the garden will need a little attention, the grass seems to have suffered :)

Haha.

Thanks Karl! Security will be very high on the list indeed!

The garden is now empty again, but you're dead right. The grass really has totally vanished!

We'll get the garden sorted out next year :) priorities!

Jeez, that is so impressive already, and with the plans you have in place for the future, this will put many a kwikfit to shame...
Keep up the good work, it is really paying off!

where are you from mate?
nick doesnt do things by halves he has his ocd!!
honestly tho ive been in lots of fast cars
some quicker than his down the straights
but nothing like it in the bends
ive never been in anything so glued to the road
its just so well sorted!!!
you feel so safe in it!!

What about if you wanna jack the car up? Surely the scaff boards covering the inspection pit aren't manly enough to support the weight? Or are you going to move the car to one side? Or is there a 2 poster ramp planned?

Looks good tho, wish i had a man cave like it, can't even get my car up the ramp to get even close to the garage let alone in it!

Scaff boards take the weight just fine at the edges :) you'd be amazed how strong they are. They can be loaded out with full pallets of bricks and the like.

Long term I'm going to add jacking points to the sills directly below the cage legs, so the jack will remain entirely on the concrete :)

Thanks for all the kind words so far chaps :) it's much appreciated!

It's oddly enjoyable to be writing things up again too! I've missed writing the regular updates about the car.

All I can say is: Precision. That's f**king awesome! I'm sure I can talk on behalf of everyone reading by saying "I want one!"

Brilliant work as always. :)

Cheers Gareth :) very kind.

I'm really looking forward to getting the walls up and the roof on so I can get back to improving the car!

Merry Christmas mate :) Nice to see you yesterday, John Smiths and cars are needed soon (not at the same time).

Ideally you'll need Lcr track rod ends on your existing arms mate :)

Or, I believe you can swap the existing ends side to side.

Just don't keep the existing ends on the original sides, as when you flip them over the bend on the end will g the wrong way and alter the track rod geo.

Jeez who ever crashed that there was lucky, or unlucky depending on how you look at it.

great work!! I've been in your shoes as I had to build a workshop(only 9 by 12) on the side of my garage before I could start my timeattack a3 and with a half finished house!! the walls going up is the good bit(as is painting the floor!!) it will be finished in no time the way you work-mine has taken me about 6 months..

you're a 3 hr drive from the nurburgring and you have amsterdam so dont feel too sorry for yourself ;)

Amsterdam is like drinking beer when you're underage: it's all exciting then, cause it isn't allowed. When's the last time you got excited because you were having a beer? ;)

i wouldnt go there for the beer ;)

great work!!

...before I could start my timeattack a3

Thanks Jay, and welcome to ASN too!

I'm afraid you can't say things like 'time attack a3' then not give us any more info

This sounds very interesting indeed! Do you have a thread or info about it anywhere?

Rear mounted rad!

What the ****** hell is up front?

You've got my attention now!

I see you're in Pompey too, only 20 mins from me :)

A build thread would be excellent. We need something interesting to get the forum moving again! it's been quiet lately!

In my car news, I've been down with Mum and dad for a week or so, and clocked up around 200 miles in the Mini instead :)

RobinJI came down for a few days after xmas, and we dug the Mini out of the garage and replaced the front brake pads to get it stopping straight again.
Yesterday I changed the oil, flushed the rad, and gave it a bit of a check over generally.

Thankfully I have cleaned it since this photo was taken! It was FILTHY!

At first, I honestly couldn't comprehend the idea of driving it fast, compared to the A3 it's just SO different it's unreal.

100 miles later and a bit of TLC and I was soon bombing around like the old days, reminding myself what it was like to be 17 again!

Regular "BS 2482:2009" 38mm thick scaff boards are seriously strong......I used to use 'em nearly everyday in work.

You'd be amazed (or even terrified!) at the things that supported overhead on building sites using them!!!

Nick, totally random question here but I read that you said the AGN N/A cams made no discernible difference and you lost a little down low and gained a little up top.

Was the tune ever altered fuel/timing with the new cams or where they just droppped in and the results observed?

I know you, Bill and Tuffty tried the AGN camshafts but no one mentions a retune.
