Pay the bit extra and get a Varta, Bosch etc. They are cheap for a reason. It's not as if a quality battery is twice the price, it's not.
Karl.
Aye, as with everything. With more apologies for the second hi-jack, I ended up with one of Halfords mid-range offerings. Which I believe may be made by Yuasa.
I could have got a Bosch a bit cheaper from ECP but I knew the battery was dying and the blasted thing had failed to start in the morning. I gave it 20 mins on the charger which did the trick and trundled off ( now late!) to a meeting after which I was left in the embarrassing situation of having to get a jump start from the guy I was with. Given it was raining, and I suspected I'd end up doing my back in lifting the battery out and in, Halfords was a simpler solution. It ended up being a two-man job would you believe, with me showing him how to access the bolt, and me holding the wiring conduit out of the way so he could get at the bolt. What a faff.
The guy who did the job didn't seem to be in any way concerned that the breather pipe couldn't be connected as the peculiar T-shaped Audi fitting wouldn't fit the small round breather hole in the new battery. OK, so it's in a well ventilated place but even so. Neither did he remember to provide me with the blanking plug which is apparently removable from one of the new battery's terminal covers and is supposed to be fitted in the other hole. There are two, I guess to accommodate different layouts.
Still, it was worth the £10 and a little extra cost on the battery to have them do it given the overall hassle for such a simple job. A rummage in my odds and ends bin produced a suitable plug, and some minor surgery to a washer pipe jointing piece provided a fitting which fitted the battery and the breather pipe once I'd cut the T fitting off. Just so anyone contemplating a battery change by Halfords knows what to expect.
And yes, I know all about Halfords' techs technical ability.
