Hey guys,
I have an A3 1.6 2007 (not fsi).
It does seem to use a bit of oil, nothing drastic but it does need topping up occasionally - is this normal anyway?

Moving on, there is the tell tale sign of gunk in the oil cap (consistently for some time to be fair), however it has never used a drop of coolant in it's life, I've had it 18 months ~14,000 miles. The underside is clean, no leaks anywhere that I can see but still the consumption and more alarmingly - the gunk!

Anyone have any ideas what this could be/be warning me of?

Thanks in advance!
Dan

1L per 1500 miles is normal apparently

If you're not using coolant I would say it's possibly condensation !? Do you make frequent short trips ?

Not most of the time but in fairness recently I've been worked from home more frequently so it hasn't moved far! Sounds like that's probably the cause I didn't realise that could cause the gunking!

Yes, and the recent drop in temperature won't help. Just keep an eye on your coolant level and check no mayo on dipstick.
