K04-064 Tfsi turbo to 1.8 20vt engine

Needs to be out to at least 43 on the manifold and gasket to create a step.

Or create the step on the adaptor and match manifold to adaptor which is the easier option..

Are all tfsi gaskets 37mm on the ports?

I'm fairly sure when I replaced mine this summer the stock gasket went on and didn't create a step at all. And I know for sure that my turbo and adapter plate had both been previously ported out.

As far as i could find 37mm is the biggest on 4 cylinder tfsi engines. Maybe a gasket from a v8 fsi (rs4, s5, r8) has bigger size ports that would fit?

@Prawn Do you know if the adapter has straight ports or do they reduce from 41mm to 37mm? (as OEM stock gasket is) and then ported the turbo to 37mm? I do prefer step up in size as beachbuggy said earlier becaus of improvement in flow.

K04-064 can be picked up pretty cheap here in holland. About 500 euro's for completely revised unit that did only 25 000 KM making this conversion verry interesting.

my gasket is no where near the ports of a large port head and was new out of the packet untouched. We ported the adapter a little to match the head iirc

Same here mark. My gasket was stock and doesn't restrict flow to my knowledge. I modified the stud holes on the gasket to get it to sit centrally on the ports, but otherwise it was a good match.

My adaptor and turbo have both been ported after manufacture so in couldn't comment on that one mate. Sorry!

Well if the tfsi gasket is the smallest size i can't increase there remains only one option. Making adapter ports 37mm and porting one side of the adapter to 40mm on the head size. Porting the turbo to 37mm matching the adapter and tfsi gasket should do the trick then.
Aim will be 350 bhp and 450 Nm limited on stock rods so should be fine.

Thanks guys!

450NM is a bit optimistic for OEM rods....

I'm not surprised.

The ED30 is a great place to start, and pretty much identical to the S3 8P as you know, and when you uprate the internals you get something very tough indeed.

Mine turns out a bit over 500bhp and about 650Nm or 480lbs on the current turbo.

With just the Proalloy intercooler it will run inlet temps around 5C above ambient, with relatively short heatsoak effects in traffic, and to be honest,I haven't checked it with WMI running as the results alone were pretty good.

The WMI system on mine is also an AEM...really easy to set up and very reliable.

I know it was three years ago but I would love to see a power graph of this if it's possible and correct me if I'm wrong but is it a k04-064 turbo that you're running? Thanks.

I don't have the graphs to hand.
I'll see what I can dig out though later.

A K04 will get you to around 380bhp at best....I'm using something bigger...currently a GTX3582

look at prawnys tfsi power, he's posted it up recently on his build thread..
uprated 12psi actuator, billet 7+7 but same size compressor wheel I believe

Cheers Bill. Will check that out tomorrow.

I'm in a slow progress of doing a k04-64 hybrid on my S3 (RHD). Got plenty of scrap heads to use so once my turbo and fitting kit arrivers from Poland i will loosely assemble everything together and bolt the motor in the car again and see how much of a drama that DP will be...

I was looking at a k04-064 turbo and the compressor housing looks a bit tricky to re clock for the longitudinal engines but I suppose that's half the fun.

Not really... 064 on an A4 longitudal has been done... fits easier than a transverse
