Hi,

Today when I started my 2010 Avant I had some warning lights come on the dash saying that the lights on the towbar are not working I now have a bulb with a red line symbol on the dash.

Thing is towbar is not mounted and never has been. Has water got in somewhere causing the problem?

Also does anyone have VCDS in the Thrapston, Kettering area as I need to reset my service interval.

thanks

Ian

The module is in the right side of the boot, pull off the cover with the ciggy light in it and check if there is water in there.

Yep it's wet, what can I do?

Which module is it, and is it a case of just drying it out. Will I need VCDS to reset the warning lights?

Maybe everything in that side is damp?

Sit in the boot and have someone squirt the rear washer for a fair while to see if anything comes down the pillar.

Blow it out with an airline then leave it all open with a fan heater blowing on it for a few hours, medium heat. I guess you could remove the module and put it in the airing cupboard overnight, but dont turn on the ignition while it's disconnected.

Pretty much everything was damp. took a hairdryer to it last night and sprayed some ACF50 http://www.acf-50.co.uk/acf-50.htm.
Will try the fan heater, don't really want to remove the module.

Once its dry will I need VCDS to clear the warning light?

Dunno, sorry.

I would not have sprayed anything on it as it may trap moisture, but its a bit late for that now...

No probs, I only sprayed the top of the module once I had dried it out just to stop anymore water ingress. Car is going to the dealers at the end of the month for oil consumption test so will get it sorted then. Thanks for your help.

For my own information, which side does the rear washer pipe run down, nearside or offside ?

Nice to see Audi still appear to have issues with the rear washer pipes on A4 B8 Avants as they age.....my B6 Avant had a problem, and I only knew about it when my Bose Amp in the rear offside quarter packed up :-(

I intend to "invent some sort of plastic guard to prevent any water ingress on the B&O Amp or whatever is on the near side quater

Took the unit out, corrosion on both plugs and terminals. Cleaned up and sprayed lightly with acf50, left fan in car to dry rest out. Plugged unit back in, no warning lights, happy days.

Have not checked water ingress yet, but would coincide with more use of rear wash wipe recently.

Not sure where pipe actually goes, if someone knows, would be useful?

How you resisted the urge to sit in the boot while someone else washes the rear screen I don't know ;)

Think I might just cover the rear screen in rainx.

You are still assuming its the rear washer. Could be a seal.
