So after spending the best part of 3 hours trying to find my interior leak I've gave up, i was soaked, freezing and out of light.

I removed the door sill, glove box and the carpet it as far back as i could, i tested the door sills with chalk and nothing, checked the scuttle and pollen filter and nothing, i emptied gallons of water to see if the leak appeared with the carpet up, but nothing.

The water seems to be coming from around the transmission tunnel and seems to be all along their, nothing really in the back so i no longer have a clue.

So after the christmas the car's either getting torched or sold, I've had enough of it.

Can you not just take the carpet out completely for a while? Will make it easier to locate where it coming from...

Its a nightmare though mate, both seats out, door trims off, rear door cards off, back seats out and centre consoling out :(.

i have had issues with fords and volvos leaking water from the air-con system into the cabin. maybe something else to try, running car with a/c on and check the front under the dash. long shot.

I'll try owt pal. Ill give that ago as well. Where abouts would the air con leak in the cabin though?

Weird place to leak water. My guess would have been that water is coming from the lower ventilation shafts after getting there through the pollen filter, but if that's dry then I guess this version is off. Do you have a sunroof (did S3's even have sunroofs?!) could it's drain be blocked and somehow push water into the cabin? IDK, just throwing ideas around. Though safest bet would be to dismantle the interior like tuffty said. The panels and centre console isn't as difficult (or PITA) to remove as you think (if you have a warmer place other than outside to do it).

i'd try running the car with a/c on, and set to a low temperature.

get a good small torch and look at anywhere that water could possibly come from in terms of vents and pipes. get right in there under the dash. let it run for ten minutes and then check again.

if its aircon water, it'll probably smell musty too.

best of luck with it.

I know, its doing my head in. No mate non sunroof.

So the idea regarding air con! Would it just be condensation as i thought air con was gassed filled.

Aircon is gas-filled and and under high pressure. The two cars that i know of were venting condensation into the cars cabin, rather than onto the road.

They both soaked the carpets, and made the interiors smell mouldy. Both needed carpets removing to locate the problem.

Best bet would be a test with a smoke machine, seal the car up and fill it with smoke, then you wil be able to see where the smoke is leaking from, they did this to an Aston on wheeler dealers, there should be someone online you can hire a machine from.

If you tell me what your replacement car is i may think about it ;).

Haha so you have bought another s3 then?????

if you can put paper towels down all over the inside while your carpets out then leave it over night and next day your be able to see where is wet on the towels to make it easyier to locate! :)
