I've heard/read about issues with BUL engine code suffering with cam chain and oil pick up pipe issues etc, however I cannot find anything being mentioned about the BWE engine code.

Can someone please confirm if the same issues are apparent with this engine. Mine has just rolled over the 100k mark and I am now considering some of these preventative measures.

I had the cam follower replaced last year around the 90k mark and it was barely warn, had it replaced anyway.

The car has been remapped since Jan 2010 and its been great other then the usual oil burn issue - around 1ltr every 800-1000 miles which appears to be about average.

Thanks in advance

As far as I've heard BUL engine is meant to be the best from the rest. I would get the chain tensioner and pick up pipe replaced as precaution and peace of mind.

I've just done the chain and tensioner on my car and it's made a huge difference.

Thanks mate.

I take it the part numbers will be same regardless of what variant the engine is? The part numbers I have are;

CAM CHAIN - (can you confirm if these are the right bits to get replaced);
  • 1 x Timing Chain Tensioner - 06F109217A
  • 1 x Timing Chain - 06D109229B
  • 1 x Timing Cover Gasket - 06D103121B
  • 1 x Valve Cover Gasket - 06F103483D
  • 1 x Fuel Pump Seal - WHT005184
  • 1 x Camshaft Adjuster Valve O-Ring - N10691601
  • 3 x Bolt (M6x60, Hex) - N91089601
  • 3 x Bolt (M6x22, Torx) - N10196303
  • 1 x Exhaust Cam Sprocket Bolt - 06D109281D
OIL PICK UP pipe: 06F115251B

Hey,

Ali not sure were you got the idea that the BUL are the best :) In terms of performance and and mod supports yes but the BUL seem to be the most prone to chain issues that said most of the 2.0 TFSI "200/220hp" suffer from all the common issues unless they are the later or last editions made as they mostly had the revised parts.

Prel2000 - Firstly I will ask you what year is your vehicle? And what colour is your rocker/valve cover.

As for your list its almost correct. Im not sure what the below is for.
  • 3 x Bolt (M6x60, Hex) - N91089601
My guess would be to replace the bolts on the high pressure fuel pump which arent necessary. But sure for the sake of £1.2 if you want to replace it then go for it.
You are missing a rubber - 06D145117 - Its a rubber that goes on the lip vacuum pump might as well change it as it only cost £3 dont want oil running out the back.

Id say get your cam-belt done if you haven't already. Thats about it really.

Thanks for the replies gents

Giosabcsl - its 2005 (55 plate). I am not sure what colour the valve cover is tbh, What will the colour indicate?

The cambelt was last done in 2010 so that will need replacing when doing the cam chain and tensioner.

The clutch/DMF is also wearing so will have that done around same time as pick up pipe.

Any advice on clutch and flywheel btw? I know LUK make the OEM stuff so may just source LUK replacement from Euro car parts. Or is it worth upgrading to something else the fact that I am remapped?

Also thinking about getting the carbon build up checked on the valves and do a cleanup...any advice on that will also be appreciated.

Thanks

Okay you might be one of the lucky ones as usually its the cars that are 06 or newer that have the revised intake camshaft which means very little cam follower wear were as if they dont they wear cam followers every 5-15k miles especially if you are mapped.

Usually if the valve cover is black it means the car came with a B cam shaft. But in some cases some vehicles have been into Audi and have replaced the valve cover from the silver to black as there is a few changes for the pcv. None the less. I have seen a few 55 plate Audis with the revised cam.

Rule of thumb the cam-belt should be changed 5 years or 75,000 miles which ever comes first so I suggest that be done water pump as well as tensioners especially if you plan to keep the vehicle for a foreseeable future.

As for clutch and flywheel its really up to you if you want to go for a aftermarket setup for a OEM set up. Preference really I mean if you plan to keep stage 1 on your vehicle then just stick with stock tbh. Unless you play to put more power then go for uprated set up.

The carbon is a tricky one personally its usually suggested to pull the head and just get it cleaned/sandblasted but the reality is, it will just return anyway due to the way the pcv is set up unless you go for a catch can set then you wont have the issue or install water meth :) Otherwise there is a few companies that do the cleaning but its abit of hit and miss due to being direct injection.

I would personally treat all tfsi's the same. Especially in the A4 due to how the sump is shaped.

Hi I recently had an engine rebuild and new cylinder head. In terms of cam belt, cam belt and pick up pipe, should these have all been replaced/refurbished as part of the job?

I changed my clutch and DMF recently and just stuck with OEM. So far has been absolutely fine, pulling through the gears like a beast as mine is mapped also. Id stick with stock on a stage 1.

Thanks Av4nt.....sounds good mate!

Where did you source your OEM clutch and flywheel and what did it set you back? Also what other parts were required for the job, if any?

actually from Ebay, just a performance car parts seller. Its listed as sachs xtend clutch which is just LUK made. was £300 i think.
Just comes in three parts and thats it. Have a gearbox oil change at the smae time and it will be smooth as butter again. :)

Do you have the link for the ebay listing where you bought yours? I've done quick search but cannot find one for the B7 TFSI.

Thanks

Go to a website called carparts4less you could get a LUK clutch kit for around £200 posted.

It's basically eurocarparts with a different online name.

yeah cant find the link now tbh above is correct, anwyhere that sells Sachs Xtend clutch or LUK uprated for 2.0 TFSI will all be the same
