EDIT: just realised the title should have a ? not a ! and I cannot change it so no keyboard warriors or whatever kind of crafty person you are to comment about that :p

Hi guys.

Just got the info that my car has a high possibility of being here next week before christmas, but i'm trying to decide to collect it before x-mas or wait until the new year for the 2015 registered on the logs, (I know the new number plates are march)

So would it make much difference when it comes to trade it in if I collect it Dec 2014?

Bare in mind, this car is probably going to be with me for a good 10 years, maybe longer if I love it too much.

As far as I would be concerned there is no option other than wait and get it registered Jan 2015.
The value will increase considerably come sale or trade in time.

I once did the wrong thing on a TTS and the value increase for just a few weeks was something like £800

If you really do plan on keeping for 10 years then 1 month will not make any difference, however if you get bored like me and change every 1.5/2 years then it may make a slight difference..:)

IMHO, the difference between a late December 2014 registered car, against one registered at the beginning of January 2015, won't make a jot of difference to the secondhand value of your car, even more so if you intend to keep it for a few years.

So get yourself an early Xmas present and get it next week!

Trust me from experience the month makes a big difference.
If you were looking for a used vehicle then would you pay the same for a 2012 car as a 2013 vehicle with the same mileage and condition?

I'd say if you were going to change it within 5 years then yes, wait until January. If you are keeping it for the long run then I doubt it'll make much difference.

I had the same dilemma when mine arrive in November as I was planning to get it in January but I got a free service thrown in as an incentive to get it early. I'm aiming to keep the car for a minimum of 5 years I would think.

Collect it after new years just incase you do change car within the next 5 years.

This way you will also have something to look forward to once xmas and new years is over and everyone else is feeling depressed!

If you have the car on a four year finance deal, they make an assumption you will trade it in after three years.

The difference in value between a 2014 registered car and a 2015 registered car is about £200 against a trade in.
The difference in value between a 64 plate and a 15 plate is about £500 against a trade in.

Obviously the latter is of no odds to your situation, but it's interesting to know!

Personally... I'd give myself a nice Christmas present!!! :)

^This :thumbs up:

But I can't talk, me thinks I'm going to wait till 1st March ... :whistle2:

I have just got my S3 Saloon last week (but I had no car for the last 3 weeks), like you I am keeping it a good while (7.5-8 years)
so it will not make a button of difference then. I think early xmas present and enjoy while you are off on holiday, I know I am!

Si

If you are planning to keep it that long then I'd get it as soon as its available!!
If, on the other hand, there is a chance of you trading it in in 5 years or less then I'd wait till January.

If it was me, I'd have it as I couldn't bare knowing its just down the road and for the sake of £500-£1000 (over 5-10 years remember) I couldn't sit and play with it and drive around.
Belter of a Xmas present to yourself ;)

If one was registered in December 2012, and the other in January 2013, for me, I wouldn't give a t*ss!! ;)

New Year - will you really drive it over the next week? Nope. Get yourself a nice New Year present and ensure that it retains a tad more value "just in case" you don't keep it as long as you intend. Plus why waste a month's road tax for the sake of a couple of days?

Get it next week and enjoy it!! Your keeping it for a while so who cares if it's registered as a 2014 or 2015!!:)

You waited for 3-4 months for them to build it and you can't wait an extra week? lol what's the rush?

HI simple really wait till January I collect mine on the 2nd of January Bit of a no brainer

Would love to collect now but not worth not having registered on a year 2014

:) Cant Wait

If you have a nice amount of time off over Christmas I would get it ASAP plenty of time to play with the car and get some driving done! If however like me you are working all but the bank holidays then wait till next year.

Just go get it now, so we can see some pics! :D :congratulatory:

If I was keeping a car for 10 years I wouldn't worry about a trade in price...chances are you'll be giving it to a family member or throwing it away anyway (drastic I know) lol.

My car is also ready now, he said he can have it with me within 2 days...but I'm waiting for March (for a good reason). I think he was thinking more of upping his end of year/monthly targets!

Could you be tempted by an incentive?

I got a free service thrown in to pick it up a month early.

Just got mine today. Couldn't wait and didn't want it in the damp in the dealer compound over Christmas. 1 extra Crimbo pressie to buy now for my S3

I'd never describe retirement as anything like permanent holiday. It's really unpaid work and my wife's list of jobs for me keeps getting longer. But the commute is short!
