Oh right just tps etc?
I got the plastic adaptors but my local tps wanted £29 per coil pack ?? But their pricing seems all over the place :-/

I got the adaptors from awsome gti think they were about £7 for 4 then was £70ish for the red coilpacks :)

Just curious if anyone has noticed a difference once they have installed the 2.0tfsi coil packs? I must say I haven't.

Also what gap is everyone using with the new coils?

From what I gather a performance gain is not why ppls use them, it's more they are a better more reliable unit than old sticks.

I heard people saying that they can give you a smoother idle, but I don't buy it. Oh well no harm having them in!

They are just a coilpack... they are nothing special... the smoother running is a placebo and you would get that from fitting brand new 20v packs...

I admit to getting suckered into the hype (although not at the expense of the over priced jewellery known as adaptors) but in reality they are no better than a new set of 20v packs...

They look a bit different and you can get them in red...

I still run my plug gaps at 0.7mm... when I ran them at the mythical 0.85mm I started getting misfires under load at 2bar of boost... that was with BKR7E plugs that were new and new genuine VAG TFSI coil packs...

Basically... if you need coil packs or fancy something a bit different then you have a choice but they are not all that...

Yes.... my average over half a tank went up by 2.6mpg... so... after fitting the TFSI coils my MPG improved enough to raise my overall MPG of the last fuel up by 2.6mpg from the previous fuel up...

Ideally yes as the bolt down coil pack cam covers have no means to locate push down coil packs...

Its a coil pack... fitting new coil packs of any sort would potentially improve the way the engine runs but improvements are subjective at best

<tuffty/>

Has this been disproven since then? Not trying to be a **** here btw, hope I don't come across as such... :)

As I said... its subjective... my previous coils were old... the TFSI ones were new... not discounting the effect on MPG but it is hugely subjective especially in my case due to the level of modification

TFSI coils appear to be of a more pokey design but I have as yet not personally seen evidence to back this up... I know that more powerful coils do work better at producing a larger energy spark which in turn can help MPG etc but I don't think its a reason to buy TFSI coils over 20v ones... a new set of coil packs and a new set of plugs will always help the way an engine runs... the 2.6mpg increase I mentioned above is just as subjective as doing a full service tbh...

When I first started running my newly built stroker engine in on actuator pressure only I was getting on average 24mpg... 2mpg up from when it was a GT30/1.8... thats settled back down to 22mpg with boost...

In my A2 (a 1.4tdi) If I travel at 2400rpm (equates to an indicated 65mph) I can get 60mpg... if I up my sped by 5mph to 70 this drops to 55mpg...

Point is... too many variables to definitively say new coil packs (TFSI or 20v) will make a big difference, just don't buy them if you don't need to thinking they will

That's very good advice.

It also carries over into the TFSi world when Okada brought out the coilpacks for the 8P,and everyone thought these were the next best thing.

At that sort of price, they ought to have been amazing, but the actual gains seemed to be very small.....I notice they also make them for the 8L,but I don't expect there's too many takers here either.

Just over 400 quid a set last I looked...

I would imagine you would need to be running an inordinate amount of boost and/or revs to justify using them as thats the only reason I would imagine you would need them...

Hell no :)

And the correct answer is.....

The above!

I can't see the point honestly... A friend of mine tried them on his 700+bhp GolfR and didn't see much improvement so I thought I'd probably be OK!

Ordered from avag dealer for $4.34 cents each.. Less than $20.00 for 4. part#077905390
