Sounds like tyre is rubbing when turning right

A3 2.0 tdi sportback

Have replaced both drive shafts in the past year. Just done the front wishbone rear bushes. Bearings are ok too.

But when i turn right, it sounds like something is rubbing on the right side.

Tyres replaced 1000 miles ago. Wheels fully balances.

The alignment has also been done.

What can this be?

Got te same issue here. But this sound happens only when I am at low rpms and turn the while to the right. My mechanic checked everything and couldn't find anything wrong with it, I am going mad.

Same here. Low rpms and turning right. Mechanic couldn't find anything else.

I thought it may be tracking but thats straight to and wheels wear evenly.

I also have this but also a drone that increases with car speed so put it down to a wheel bearing.

Check the mud guards and plastic trim around the wheel arch as they can rub the wheel if not fastened properly.

Mine stays noisy.

Yup. Also stays noisy. Its a rotational noise on right turns only

This is driving me mad. My mechanic even put some foam on parts that could be juggering, but didn't help.

I spent £200+ on bushes sorting this out but its still doing it. Even taken my spacers off in case ot was due to them. Still scratching my head

Just found out it could be rack and pinnion on another forum. One guy also had this and the problem was low power steering fluid level lol.

Also, brake dust shield could cause the issue... Now only to test all those. :\

Hmmm - doesn't sound like it but I guess its worth checking and eliminating the problem. I will check the break dust shield later this weekend

Now this got me wondering... do A3s even have power steering fluid? Isn't the steering in these cars electric?

No more grinding/rubbing noise when turning right for me.. Turned out is was the passenger side bearing!

Wheel bearings are usually more of a grinding noise than a rubbing noise but could be worth a check.

Learnt to live with it. Not had time to get it on the ramp. I reckon its something to do with the steering

I had mine on the ramp a good few times now. Getting to the point of taking the whole weekend to strip everything properly. A bit ****** off because mines on an 09 but only covered 38k. Might even make a trip to the dealer and make them find it.
