I own a 2000 a6 2.5tdi quattro auto. Over the last 2 months I noticed the battery draining overnight. I checked the alternator and this is kicking out plenty so changed the battery. However the problem persists. If I drove during the day and park up leaving it overnight the battery can be almost flat in morning. i jump start drive for a bit and the battery charges up, parkup and leave overnight and almost flat again. Im thinking a rogue relay possible cause but cannot find where these are housed. can anypne give pointers as it really is a pain in the butt.

It might be your battery dead. Do you have a voltmeter? Check it in the morning and if it's under 12.2 v, then there's your problem.

It is a new battery fitted 2 months ago yet still same problems. checked with volt meter alternator pushes around 14v out. Thought it might be a relay of some description permanently stuck on

Ok I jave conducted the checks and it is the fuse for the central locking which showed a massive drop in amps drawn. However this fuse seems to be for the central locking, alarm, and electric windows. Any ideas where to start? I disconnected the electric window connectors from the switches and this showed no drop however where to go from here im a bit stuck.

Best way is to follow this guide. (cant be bothered typing it all out). Once you have found which fuse, I can advise on what the culprit may be based on the wiring diagrams.

Check your convenience module under the passenger footwell carpet. If that's gotten damp (common) it may cause a short.
