hello everyone, this started a month ago and started with both front and rear left side carpets being wet. I sorted the front as it turned out to be a bad fitment of the cabin filter casing and a lot of debris causing the water to enter the front I cleared it and the front has stayed dry.

its just the back I cant figure out as you can see from the attached picture its dry around where the floor heater vent is and its dry where the carpet goes up towards the door and all the plastics/door rubbers are dry I just don't know where its getting in where its labelled very wet it seriously is its more like a little puddle

please can someone advise me what to do I cant keep vax-ing the car every time it rains or I clean it.

I have had someone hose the car whilst im inside and you cant see it

please help a very frustrated audi owner :-(

Now I'm just grabbing at thin air here but have you lifted the rear seat to inspect under it? About 30 seconds to take it off if you have the Avant, for that it's worth a look. You could pull the carpet away from under the seat to have a better look.

Yes its the avant i have.. is it just a case of unbolt the rear seat and it lifts up then i can view under the carpet?

Mine just pulls up, two clips hold it in place no bolts. Beware you may break the clips but they are only pennies to replace. ( I bought some spares from dealer last week)

Yours is a b7 yes? I'm hoping there isn't different designs and I'm telling you wrong! But mine defo has no bolts

And I'm talking about lower seat as in the bit your bum sits on.

m8 open the front bonnet and where is the battery there is a drain .... normaly is full of leaves and other shits ... remove the battery clean it well and see is there any water .... if no your problem could not be from there but on B5 that drain was blocked. Yeah i know is a bit silly but try it !

you was right about just the two clips mate :) and I never broke them BONUS!!

I lifted what I could of the carpet and it was just puddles I couldn't really see where it was getting in. it wasn't mouldy nor did it smell funky it was more like clean water :-/

I will have to get someone to hose it down whilst im in the back lifting the carpet.

I have read about this being a issue but isn't this for the front seats then the water ends up in the back? I will double check the weekend but I can pretty much see under the battery now and there isn't anything there unless its quite deep down from the battery :-/

the issue I had with the front was stupid, there was a twig across the seal of the cabin filter housing and a build up of pines at the back so when I had the car washed I could see and hear the water coming in through the glovebox.

hmm.. you don't think the water in the back could be from when the front got wet do you? all I have done in the rear is vax it. the water smells/looks clean and maybe the sponge is holding that much its not drying out because of the cold weather?

yeah not you need to switch heater on the legs and leave the car for an hour with open windows - so the steam can go out ! It is really deep under the battery so remove is - check it and you will see that just under the battery the drain is blocked 90% sure ! Do you have scuttle panel and battery cover ?

I have no idea what a scuttle panel is... and no there is no battery cover i brought the car like this. ...

Another shot in the dark here but I notice in your pictures that the frame/bolts for the front seat are a bit rusty. Not sure if the bolt in this is straight in/through the chassis? Maybe this would be worth a look, is water getting in through there somehow?

Philip, have you checked the seal on the inside of the rear door skin.....behind the door card ? The inner seal around the door aperture can sometimes allow water to dribble down behind the door card and onto the carpet. I note the wettest point on your carpet is near the door, although that may well be the lowest point where the water will naturally collect.

Removing the door card will show if there have been leaks as they normally leave a watermark etc. If so its simply a case applying a silicone bead around the lower edges to re-seal the inner door skin.

Also, check that the drain holes on the underside of the door are clear.

Failing that, I'd certainly make sure that the rubber drain guides have been removed beneath the battery etc. as mentioned by others.
.

This might not be useful, but worth a check.

I had a similar problem in my old mazda a couple years ago, I came out to the car and the driver side footwell and rear footwear were full of water. The problem was from the drainage holes under the scuttle cover were blocked, so when it rained the water level would build up so high that it found its way into the sills, and from there it found its way into the car.

Excuse my poor drawing haha, but try pulling your battery and stuff out and clearing out any leaves or crap. This might not be the cause of your problem but it's worth a shot :)

Sorry for the late reply everyone hope you all had a great new years..

Hopefully the car is all sorted now its been dry for a few weeks and been washed 3 times.

I had that problem with the cabin filter housing to start with which i think is where the water originally come from and made its way into the back. And after vaxing it many times it just seemed to remain wet.. well i peeled the carpet back got rid of the puddles and squeezed all the water out the foam etc and its been dry ever since :-/
