1st Official 8V RS3 shots

I quite like the look of it. I do agree that wider arches would be nice to make it look at tad more brutal, but I also like the subtlety under the radar look, especially if you debadged it! I would have one, but a bit out of my price range at the moment!

Maybe they've redefined the S / RS badging as 'Subtle' and 'Really Subtle'. The clubsport did look incredible, but I've always been a sportback fan so was hoping there would be some middle ground but it does look toned down. Perhaps with spec options you can make it look more agressive, perhaps it just doesn't suit Misano!

Fair point that maybe they've gone too far on the subtlety. However if they put arches on as wide as the RS4, I think it would be a bit much on quite a smaller frame

Have Audi changed the idea with RS cars now?

We are seeing RS models announced and released much earlier into the lifetime of a new model.

Previously we would see the RS released as the model is about to be retired.

I always thought this gave the RS buyer a really awkward quandary, in that they will be buying a car that will shortly be replaced by a newer shape.

If I had the £££ for an RS I would want the model to be current during the three or four years that I owned it!!!

I mean i love the sound of a straight 5. But that just doesnt look right to me. Somethings off with it.

:(

Maybe itd look better in a different colour.

There's something about the front end thats making me think of a Civic Type R.

It's the silver roof bars, and it's a hatchback

It wouldn't surprise me if they limit this to 5-door only. I don't think it will upstage the S3 by much, it will make the S look like a bargain.

On the other hand, I would love Audi to make a complete fool out of what I just said!

Not doing it for me I'm afraid. Maybe another colour & different wheels would improve it. Don't think the Quattro badge on the front grille suits it either.

wow nice brakes, 8 piston 370mm in front.

also it is possible carb ceramic brakes.

7 gear DSG , superb.

One thing I would like to know is the weight in front axle...5 pots vs 4 pots, more weight = less agile?

Our s3 8v is now counting 42000km (11months ) with the mtm and for me the worst thing is the short ratio 6 gear DSG.

:)

I think the press shots could be better but I really like it. Especially the rear, the exhausts and defused are so much more noticeable over the s3. I intended to look at an s3 in a year or 2 but it may well be a second hand rs3.

I can't wait to read the proper road tests of it

At first I wasn't impressed at all, but it's growing on me! I like understated and think that in the right spec this could be a winner...will reserve final judgement until I see one in the flesh.
New Picture

This pic is from audi.de and with the front 'splitter' in body colour, no gimmicky 'quattro' in the grill, and xenon lights I think it actually looks pretty smart.

Add some silver roof rails, hopefully Alcantara and HD screen as standard and I can't think of much else that it needs. And I even like the wheels!!

The colour is Catalunya Red Metallic by the way...hard pressed to tell the difference between that, Misano, and Brilliant though. Apparently Nardo Grey will be an option...

I wont be buying one, whist I feel that if the five pot was fore and aft rather than transverse the increase in nose weight would be less noticeable. Its not a possible configuration on the A3 platform.

Had the car had more BHP from the four cylinder unit (and yes I know the S3 can be tuned but not without the risk of losing warranty) I would be interested. Not gobsmacked but interested, I think Audi could have done a little more to make it look a little more special.

Sadly not for me. So please don't shoot me, it's just my opinion and I have the choice what I spend my savings on. So new motorbike for next year it is then.

wavey wheels!

I did link the english version of the DE site but it claimed it was a 4.0 litre engine versus the de site that states 2.5... so removed the link as it was clearly wrong.

Mono. pur as standard?

I doubt it.

In the last RS3, you had to spec the extended leather pack to get all the mono.pur bits, it was £810

(and £615 for a suede steering wheel, handbrake lever and gear lever/knob)

Fair enough, according to the site tech pack high is standard though.

The images shown so far just look a little shy of what I expect of the RS marque.

Whereas, the B7 RS4 was the epitome of what I believe the RS marque represents...

Just my opinion of course...

The RS3 launch...........the biggest disappointment of 2014 for me (along with the Galaxy note 4 a.k.a IPhone 6)

At least Audi are launching it while the 8V is still young in its model life rather than leaving it late like they did with the geriatric 8P version.

As I'm bit of a numpty - ill still probably buy one in 18 months time though even after being totally underwhelmed. It does look a bit bland, but I got a feeling it might be a bit special......:)

I suspect with black pack and Nardo it might look slightly more appetising.....

Oh mono.pur should be standard me thinks :)

They should offer a carbon pack like they do on the RS6 ;)

Slept on it, never liked the Sportback and although I love Audi and it pains me to say it in not a fan of the styling.

A lot more effort and design has gone into the S3 in my opinion.

I like it, I had an email today off a dealer with lots more info, but I'm sure we all agree the decision on whether or not we change from the S3 will be how much it is......... If its £40K plus then I'm out!.

I am hoping it will a lot faster though, otherwise I shall keep saving for my RS6 & once I get that I'll consume so much fuel I'll reverse the current trend of reduced fuel prices single handed.......!

Better colour, nicer rims and the right options, I think it will look mustard!

I can't remember where I read it but I read that they start from £40k

Pricing.....I had a thought about this earlier. Looking at pricing for options across the R.S range I think it will go something like this :-

- £40k RS3 S-Tronic
- £4k Carbon Ceramics (they are this price for RS4 - front only option too).
- £2.5k Dynamic pack (LED headlights, de-restricted, maybe mag ride)
- £1k black pack and carbon engine cover
- £1k sports exhaust
- £2k (?) Bucket seats.

Then add some "essentials" (IMO of course....)
- £600 Comfort pack
- £300 Privacy glass
- £2k tech pack etc
- £750 B&O

and of course mono.pur £295.......adds up to around £52k. I think we would be kidding ourselves to think a fairly high specced RS3 with the real trick options (ceramics, dynamic pack, buckets, tech pack) won't be easily £50k +

What's other people's thoughts on pricing?

Colour in unimportant and I wouldn't pay audis prices for exclusive paint, there are nicer wrapping options as I'm quickly discovering! Just got our new swatches and we have some lovely colours even have something similar to riviera blue

Not doing it for me! Tad disappointed. However I will hold out for a saloon version and see what that's like. Still think the S3 for the money and style is better. What's with the black split wing mirrors?

When I look at that RS3, I don't see a car I want to buy new... I see a collection of parts that can be easily retrofitted to an S3/A3.

Unless the Audi parts department set totally ridiculous prices, I suspect everyone (myself included) will be swapping in a set of carbon inlays pretty quickly!

For the performance guys, a nice set of carbon ceramic front brakes would be an awesome upgrade and should be a doddle to fit. Even if the parts bill came to £5k this would still be cheaper than anything else that has ever been available in the aftermarket and would probably work a lot better as it has been designed for the platform.

Finally, all you 5 door owners are probably happy in the knowledge you can easily turn your cars into RS3 lookalikes if you wanted to.
