Is there much difference between the 2 engines ? when did they stop putting the 140 in the A3 ?
I'm looking to buy an A3 that was registered in sept 2014 , should this of been a 150 bhp by then or it just a case of the car having one of the last of the 140's there trying to shift .......thanks

The 150 replaced the 140, the don't make the latter any more.

Not sure exactly when the switch happened but I think Sep 2014 is too early for the 150 - fairly sure that came in this year.

If it has the TFSI Ultra badge then it's 150. If just TFSI, it's 140. (UK only, other countries may have different badges including the engine size).

Didn't realise they were sticking the god-awful Ultra badge on them now - glad I opted to have that deleted!

I don't mind it, looks a bit like a Quattro badge!

There's not alot of performance difference between the two as they both have the same torque..

My 150 (complete with ultra badge) was manufactured in May 2014 and registered in July.

Indeed, I can't tell the difference between mine and the ones I tested. What's more important for new buyers is probably that the Ultra 150PS models are now a tax band lower and supposedly have a better MPG.

Is May the typical time of year that small tweaks/updates to the model tend to occur then?

Yep that's when the next model year changes are announced.

Great thanks for the reply. That's about the same time I'll be looking to order an A3, so works out pretty well. Only went in to the dealers last week to service my A1, but couldn't resist a quick test drive!
