Auto dimming mirror on passenger side

Hi all,

Now that the winter is here, I've been driving a lot more in the dark. Not sure why I've only just noticed it, but my drivers door mirror and interior mirrors are both auto dimming, but the passengers door mirror is just a plain mirror.

Both the exterior mirrors are folding/ heated mirrors, but I can't for the life of me understand why only the drivers one dims and the passengers one isn't. You don't just dazzled from behind in one mirror! My wife's Q5 has both exterior mirrors dimming so why hasn't my S3? Did they just forget, or is mine built wrong?

Nope, not built wrong. The brochure states:
6XK
Door mirrors – auto-dimming on the driver’s side, electrically adjustable, folding and heated. Also includes an
automatic kerb view dipping function on the passenger side when reverse gear is selected. Only in combination with
auto-dimming rear-view mirror (PU7) or Comfort package (WBI)

So only drivers side bizarrely...which is a bit weird as it means you are safe in two out of three mirrors but if you look at the third one then you're dazzled?!?!? Very odd!

Now that I only have one dimming, I wish I didn't have it now at all. Having come from a TT which had both and having an A1 with neither, I find it hardest with my S3. When I look at the door mirrors I have to wait that micro second longer as my eyes adjust between looking at a dimmed and not dimmed mirror.

I wonder if buying a left hand drive drivers mirror would get it working on both sides for a right hand drive car. Or at least make it an optional extra at build stage (yet more money on options)

Looks like Audi are maximising profit! Advanced key only opens front doors and hatch on Sportback (my S4 had both mirrors dimming and all doors opening) but option prices are similar.

I was disappointed with this considering my 8P had dimming on both sides....I think, I can't remember now. :meeting:

This option should be on both sides though, it's such a needed feature for me.

The 8P did indeed have them both sides. I was a bit annoyed they changed this but it's rare that it causes any kind of problem really.

In retrospect I kind of wish the nearside mirror on the 8P hadn't been dimming as then Audi wouldn't have charged me £200 for new glass when I smashed it!
