hi all,

i know everyone drives differenct - however im not a flat out driver - pretty sensible if i do say so lol however i am only getting 37 mpg out my 2.0tdi b8 saloon.

will a remap help me, or anything else?

i thought i should be seeing high 40's

cheers

A remap will possibly help a little, getting rid of the DPF will definately help. Does sound as though you might have an underlying problem. How long have you had the car? . What size wheels and tyres ?, have you checked VCDS for fault codes.
The manufacturers fuel economy needs to be taken with a pinch of salt.
Check this out

I have just changed 2 glow plugs in my V6 TDI that were duff, fault codes seen in VCDS but no EML.
We have just made the transition to winter diesel in the UK in the last few weeks and this doesn't have the same energy content as normal summer diesel, only a small change but combined with lower temps and longer warm up times results in poorer mpg.

Good knowledge about Winter Diesel! Wondered why mine had dropped 2-3 mpg recently.

I was averaging 44mpg up until a month ago with my 2009 170PS.

Have you checked the simple things like tyre pressures and brake disc drag?

Not sure how to check the VCDS?
I have had the car about 2 months now - running 19's with 255x30x19's
Tyre pressures all ok - I have just put new wheels on it
I am looking at doing to remap - considered DPF deletion but heard it'll smoke a bit without it???

what type of driving are you getting your current mpg on ? is it town or constant speed driving ? also which one is it 170 or the 143 ?

19 inch wheels and tyres are not the best for fuel economy especially if the wheels are reps as they will be heavier and the tyres are cheaper Chinese ones as the rolling resistance/ fuel economy is not as good.

One of the reasons I run lightweight 17 inch rims on mine. My car does around 33-35mpg average over a tank and most of my driving is less than 10 mile trips in built up areas. On a run will easily do 45mpg and its a 3.0 tdi 315bhp quattro.

As I put in the previous post if a car is mapped properly you won't get smoke from it. Especially with modern high pressure common rail systems. Heres a piccie of mine flat out at Santa Pod, smokeless.

When I put the water meth on it was a bit smokie but only when using the water meth and I suspect it's more steam than anything else.

Nice one Karl.

Yeh have noticed drop in fuel economy in my V6 too .

Hi. I had done a terraclean to my car with 50k miles few months ago a didn't notice any mpg improvement. A drop in fuel economy might because it's colder outside.

I only get high 30s out of my 2.0TDI 177ps around the town. I get low to mid 40s when out on long drives. I occasionally get over 50mpg if I sit at 50mph for a long time...

Currently getting a crappy 20 mpg from my Auto 2.0T Quattro petrol avant with Revo re-map, but that is around town only, but its still absolutely pants!
And it has to be run on Super Unleaded due to the re-map.

That really bad. My friend in S5 used to get that.

I've just managed 37 mpg out of my last tank on my 1.8t.. Admittedly mostly motorway! Just bought the car and the previous owner has averaged 35mpg over nearly 2,000 miles on the 2nd trip so I'm quite happy!

Manual or Auto? and I take it 2wd?
